Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card Now Has EMV Chip-and-Sign

by on October 31, 2012

We’re pleased to report the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card now features an EMV chip, making it even more attractive to frequent international travelers. EMV credit cards are now standard Western Europe, Canada and parts of Africa and Asia, to the point where some merchants don’t accept the traditional American magnetic stripe cards. With its chip-and-signature technology, the Marriott Rewards Premier increases the chance that your card will be accepted overseas.

EMV update aside, the Marriott Rewards Premier is a superior rewards card for frequent travelers and Marriott stayers. Premier cardholders get a signup bonus of 50,000 Marriott Points upon spending $1,000 in the first three months, one free night stay upon account approval and a 15-night credit toward Elite status. In addition, you’ll be gifted a free night stay each year upon account anniversary. You can offset the $85 annual fee (waived the first year) with the free night stay, alone, and get to enjoy the above-average signup bonus coupled with outstanding perks. And, perhaps the best perk of all? Absolutely no foreign transaction fees, which will save all you wayfarers, on average, 3%.

All that’s without mention of rewards rates. As far as rewards, you’ll get 5 points per dollar spent at the Marriott; 2 points per dollar spent on airlines, car rentals and restaurants; and the standard point-per-dollar rate elsewhere. The Marriott Rewards Premier was a stellar option already, but, with the introduction of EMV chip technology, the offer is one globetrotters and Marriott frequenters can’t refuse.
