Baseball has been our country’s national pastime for more than 150 years. By the 1900s, baseball games were the go-to family outing for people all over the United States. But taking a trip out to the ballpark may not be an affordable way to spend your Saturday anymore—watching your team’s hunt for October is pricier than you might think.  The average price for one ticket, parking and a meal (including a hot dog, soft drink and beer) is over $55.00, and the price of all that at a Yankees game is almost double.

The silver lining is that baseball fans have a better shot of getting a ticket than other sports fans.  Baseball has a 162-game regular season, whereas the NBA and NHL have only 82-game seasons and the NFL has only 16 games per season, meaning that baseball tickets generally sell out less quickly than other sports, and online ticket resellers add less of a markup to the overall ticket cost.

Analysis shows that the Yankees and Red Sox are the most expensive teams to watch.  Both have average ticket prices of over $50, and parking is steep in these cities as well.  The Midwest and Southwest tend to be more affordable, with the Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres and Cleveland Indians ranking as the most affordable games to attend.

Check out our list of the most expensive teams to root for, and see how much you can save by watching the game from the comfort of your own home.
