Ace Hardware Black Friday Ad Leak 2012
NerdWallet keeps the 2012 Black Friday ads coming with another big retailer ad leak. Check back often to see if what you’re looking for is out yet.
Ace Hardware’s Black Friday advertisement scan is out. The Oak Brook, Illinois based merchant has over 4,000 stores across the United States and always seems to be a big player in the Black Friday game. The retailer didn’t list their Black Friday opening time on the ad itself, but in light of previous years, 7am is a good bet for when Ace will open its doors to excited shoppers.
There’s plenty to chew through here if you’re a DIY champ – we have 8 ad pages and 96 items. Without wasting your time, let’s take a look at the best of the Ace 2012 Black Friday ad:

The Best of the Ad
There’s little doubt that there are some good deals here. We selected 26 of the discounts that stood out to us and found a median 52.9% savings on the items in question. Like you’d expect, you’ll take home some good savings on brand name tools like Black & Decker and Craftsman, but some of the other categories might surprise. We actually found one of the steepest discounts of the day on a Kitchen Selectives Slow Cooker for $2.99 after a mail-in rebate. This deal is only good on Black Friday itself. Another doorbuster, a self centering rule tape free after mail-in rebate, is only available on the 23rd as well.
If none of the items really stand out to you, make sure you don’t miss the special Black Friday weekend promotional coupons on the first page of the ad. On Black Friday itself you can get 20% off all regular-priced items until 10a.m. as a nice little incentive to get moving in the morning.
On Saturday, go for a 50% off coupon on one regular-priced item under $30. Basically, use this coupon to get a store-average Black Friday deal (remember our table above that found an average Black Friday item discount of 51.1% off and a median savings of 52.9%?) on an item of your choosing below the $30 threshold. Lastly, on Sunday you can get a $10 off coupon on your purchase of $50 or more of regular-priced merchandise.
The Rest of the Ad
There are a few mail-in rebates on these Black Friday items, so be careful that you don’t get sucked in to buying by a low price and then forget to send in your rebate. Check the terms carefully and read the FAQs if you run into a problem. You’ll also be able to track your rebates at the promo center.
These conveniences, however, still don’t really make up for the fact that sending in rebates is kind of a pain. With everything else going on this holiday season rebates will be the furthest thing from your mind. You’ll have to submit a rebate to get your Stanley Sawhorse 2/Pk. for $9.99, for example, and there are other rebate items in the ad too.
Aside from rebates, the other unimpressive feature of the ad is that it’s pretty much the exact same sale as Ace rolled out for 2011. Many items are direct repeats from last year – that DeWalt 18 Volt Cordless Drill, yours on Black Friday for $99.99, was discounted to $99.99 as well last Black Friday. That doesn’t mean it’s not nice to pay $99.99 instead of $149.99 for the drill, but we’re also no handing out trophies for creativity. In addition to items being repeated from last year’s Ace Hardware ad, this year’s Saturday and Sunday coupons are the exact same as last year’s weekend offers.
Also, one more small point of frustration – that Stanley Sawhorse that you’ll have to complete a rebate for to get for $9.99? Ace offered the same product for $9.99 on Black Friday 2011 – except last year you didn’t need to complete a rebate. Last year’s ad claims the Sawhorse had a $19.99 value and this year’s ad says that Stanley Sawhorse has a $25.99 – $26.99. value, so maybe price inflation is the cause of this specific brand of rebate nonsense?
