Mother’s Day Your Way Contest – Best Collection of Gifts

Mother's Day My Way - Best Collection of Gifts

We had a ton of great entries to our Mother’s Day Your Way contest, showing us all how to show our moms the love they deserve for under $25. From silly to thoughtful to personal, our entries had it all.

We’ve taken a few of our honorable mentions and featured them here in a list of the top “Best Collection of Gifts”:

Mommy Hobbies

The Do-It-Yourself Gift

In her blog post “Of Food and Love: Mother’s Day Gifts,” Mommy Hobbies blogger Misha encouragers children (and fathers) to show their moms the love by making a one-of-a-kind, unforgettable gift. She suggests a sewing kit in a jar or paint-dipped flower pots for DIY-ers. If you’re not so artsy, a tote bag with a picture printed on it or a personalized silhouette will do the trick as well. So long as the kids are involved, it’ll be a special treat for mom.

Hannah James Blog

The Help-One-Another Gift

Desiree from the Hannah James Blog aims to please moms while simultaneously helping other families. Her “Mothers day gifts under $25” post lists some unique items from the Noonday Collection. Founded by adoptive mother Jessica Honegger, Noonday sells products (jewelry, accessories, home decor and miscellaneous gifts) purchased from and made by artisans all over the globe, most of whom relish the opportunity to make a fair and honest income. Aside from providing jobs for struggling families, Noonday donates money to families to help cover adoption bills and to orphan care and prevention.

Jane Turley

The Gift Of Attention

Jane of The Witty Ways of a Wayward Wife just wants to be thought of. In her post “Gifts for Mother’s Day Under Twenty-Five Dollars,” she reminds us all that for Mother’s Day, some moms don’t want to be spoiled, they just want to be remembered – period. She suggests simple things just to let mom know that you’re thinking of her: a card, a bottle of wine, some bath salts…nothing too fancy, just a something to prove to her that you didn’t forget (especially if you’re the nerdy 21-year-old video game-playing son).

Gretta Johns

The Variety-Of-Gifts Gift

Gretta from The Johns Family writes a cute little ‘If you give a frazzled mom a cookie’ story in “NerdWallet’s ‘Mother’s Day Your Way’ Contest.” Throughout the story she presents some cheap and cheerful gift ideas: a personalized coffee mug or iPhone case, hair accessory organizers, a vanity set, or a funky clock.

The World of My Imagination

The Mini-Vacation Gift

In the “Best Experience Gifts for Mother’s Day (for under $25)” post on the World of My Imagination blog, writer Nicole suggests some great ideas for spending time with mom on Mother’s Day. Making breakfast in bed, going on a day trip, a girl’s day in or attending a local event are all easy ways to give mom an unconventional ‘gift’ that allows both of you to have some time off and together, which might be just what she wants.

The Beauty Stop

The Personal Touch Gift

Camilla from The Beauty Stop writes a list of “Moving Mother’s Day Gifts Under $25” that suggest thoughtful personal gifts rather than the generic card and flowers combo. She suggests selecting coffee or tea flavors just for mom, going out of your way to locate a difficult-to-find gift, or learning something about mom that’s unique to her and incorporating it into your gift – a candle with a memorable scent, for example. Camilia’s discontinued gifts idea is especially great – what mom wouldn’t want a treasured item from long ago?

There you have it! Just remember: for Mother’s Day, anything goes and everything counts. Just show mom you love her.

Thanks to these women and to everyone who participated in our contest, and thanks especially to the judges: Jennifer from Makobi Scribe, Jamie from Bazaar Bizarre San Francisco, Kelly from The Centsible Life and Janessa from Thrifty Nifty Mommy.
