Why we love Starpoints

It’s no secret that the nerds love SPG’s rewards program, Starpoints. We value them at 2.3 cents apiece on average when used for hotel stays, but you can bump that value up to 5 cents if you redeem wisely. You can also transfer the points to many major airline programs at a 1:1.25 ratio, a pretty darn fantastic rate. You can also donate to charity at a 1:1.25 rate – a 2,000-point donation to the Red Cross or UNICEF yields a $25 donation. Should you decide to become a Starwood regular, the Starwood American Express earns 1 point per dollar on all purchases – a rewards rate, then, of 2.3% on average. The signup bonus is worth a whopping $575 by our estimates.
