The American Express Business Platinum card is one of the most easily recognizable credit cards around. Due to the $450 annual fee, this card is out of reach of all but the highest level corporate executives – it is much more common to see Green and Gold corporate cards, even across Wall Street.
Perks
The card’s most notable perk is that it can get you and two travel companion into airport lounges around the world. Anyone who has experienced a long layover can attest to the joys of free food and beverages, comfortable couches, and free WiFi and newspapers. The thing to consider however, is that most people who pay up to get a Platinum Card are probably flying Business or First Class anyways, or are elite status in whatever airline they tend to fly the most. Therefore, lounge access is sometimes redundant.
The card’s second most talked about perk is the access to a concierge, though I have yet to meet anyone who has actually employed the service to such a level that it justifies the $450 annual fee.
The card’s other perks include companion tickets on full fare first and business class flights, free roadside assistance, premium travel insurance, and the normal but wonderful American Express Protections (Purchase Protection, Return Protection, and Extended Warranty).
Rewards Program
The card earns Membership Rewards First Points, which are the world’s premiere credit card rewards points. You can transfer these at a 1:1 ratio to most hotel and airline programs, and therefore they are worth their weight in gold when you are just short of a free ticket. You can also get advances on points, to the tune of 60,000 points, which can mean a free ticket all on its own.
Other Cards To Consider
If you just want a plain vanilla cash back card, sort our business credit cards page by rewards, on the left hand side, and take a look at all the great options. Of note, American Express SimplyCash gives you 5% back on office supplies and wireless, and 3% back on gasoline. We’d also be sure to consider Chase Ink Cash Business, with 3% back on office supplies, restaurants, gasoline, and home improvement stores.
