This card has it’s heart in the right place, with an above average 1.25% cash back rate. However, the main problem with this card is that it doesn’t live up to what you can earn with too many other cards.
For instance the Capital One Venture Rewards pays 2% back on all purchases, which you can redeem toward travel purchases, and it carries no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees. And the Fidelity American Express pays 2% cash back, deposited directly into your Fidelity checking or brokerage account.
I’ve even earned 2%+ with Blue Cash the past few years. For gasoline & groceries it used to pay 1% for the first $6,500 you spend each year, then 5% thereafter. For everything else, it paid 0.5% for the first $6,500 you spend each year, then 1.25% thereafter. Even now, with it’s reduced Everyday rewards program, it still pays 2% on gas and department stores and 3% on groceries, which can get you a lot more than BofA’s 1.25% overall rewards rate.
No matter how you cut it, and regardless of how you spend your money, you can still find a better cash back credit card amongst the many that we list.
