For a limited time, two Marriott Bonvoy credit cards are offering sky-high welcome bonuses and higher elite status to new cardholders who meet minimum spending requirements. The value of each bonus could reach into the four figures.
The offers
American Express announced the following offers for those who apply and are approved between Oct. 15, 2020, and Jan. 13, 2021:
Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card: Earn up to 125,000 bonus points. You can earn 100,000 bonus points after you make $5,000 in eligible purchases on your card within the first three months of card membership and earn an additional 25,000 bonus points after your first anniversary. Plus, get Platinum Elite status with your card for a year, beginning in February 2021, an upgrade from Gold Elite status. Terms and conditions apply. The card has an annual fee of $650.
That’s far more points than the typical welcome offer of 75,000 points after spending $3,000 in the first three months. Terms apply.
Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card: Earn 100,000 bonus points after you make $5,000 in eligible purchases on your card within the first three months and earn up to $150 in statement credits for eligible purchases on U.S. advertising in select media within the first six months of card membership. Plus, get Platinum Elite status with your card for a year, beginning in February 2021. Terms and conditions apply. The card has an annual fee of $125.

What Platinum Elite status means
Both cards come with automatic higher elite status. Normally, you get Gold Elite status with the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card and Silver Elite status with the Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card.
But the limited-time offer includes the higher Platinum Elite status, which gets you such perks as:
50% bonus points on stays.
Complimentary enhanced in-room Wi-Fi, available on only Gold status and higher.
Breakfast offering or amenity, depending on the hotel brand.
Enhanced room upgrades.
Hotel lounge access.
4 p.m. late checkout. (Subject to availability at resort and conference center hotels.)
