The Platinum Card® from American Express

The Platinum Card® from American Express is adding two new perks to its long list of benefits, in time for the holidays. As of Oct. 7, 2021, cardholders are eligible to receive statement credits when they use the card to purchase a Walmart+ monthly membership and SoulCycle At-Home Bikes through Equinox+. Terms apply.

Meet the new benefits

The benefits are good all year long, but their timing is ideal. You can use one to check off items from your holiday shopping list and the other to keep moving during the colder months.

Here's how they work:

  • A Walmart+ membership statement credit: Get a statement credit when you use the card to purchase a monthly Walmart+ membership (valued at $12.95 per month). The membership offers free unlimited shipping from Walmart with no minimum order requirements, free delivery from eligible stores, Rx for less and fuel discounts. Terms apply.

  • Statement credit for SoulCycle At-Home Bikes: Receive a $300 statement credit (up to 15 times per calendar year) every time you use the card to purchase SoulCycle At-Home Bikes. It’s a large credit, but it makes only a small dent in the $2,500 price of the bike. The Equinox membership is required to purchase a SoulCycle At-Home Bike and access SoulCycle content. American Express already offers an annual $300 Equinox credit on eligible Equinox Fitness Club memberships or a digital subscription to Equinox+. Terms apply.

The Platinum Card® from American Express received updated benefits in July of 2021. The recently added perks offer additional ways to offset the cost of the hefty $695 annual fee.

The Platinum Card® from American Express will continue to earn rewards and maintain its other benefits. It currently offers:

  • 5 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel (up to $500,000 per calendar year).

  • 5 points per dollar on prepaid hotels booked with American Express Travel.

  • 2 points per dollar on other eligible travel expenses booked with American Express Travel.

  • 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. Terms apply.

Is The Platinum Card® from American Express worth it for you?

While the card offers an impressive welcome bonus, the answer comes down to whether you'll use many of the card's annual credits. Many credits are doled out monthly, making them harder to use. Here's how to tell if the card is worth its fee.
