Southwest Airlines is trying to help take the sting out of high summer airfares with new, limited-time offers for its credit cards.
As of May 23, 2023, new holders of any of the three Southwest Airlines consumer credit cards can earn the following bonus: 60,000 Rapid Rewards points and a 30% off promo code for travel via Southwest Airlines after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months from account opening.
Though Southwest often runs sales on its fares, this is the first time a welcome offer for new cardholders has included a discount for flights. The 30% off promo code is good toward base fare (before taxes and fees) and is available for use through Oct. 31, 2024 — you’ll see it appear in your account automatically once you meet the new cardholder qualifications.
Southwest offers three different personal credit cards with varying fees and perks, but all cards offer the same bonus.

Points earned from all Southwest credit cards, including their welcome bonuses, count toward the airline’s signature Companion Pass. It allows one person to fly with you for free (you'll just pay taxes and fees, starting at $5.60 one way) when you purchase your own ticket.
