Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money.

Customers approved for a Walmart credit card can use their card before it even arrives in the mail. The Walmart Pay feature of the company's mobile app allows you to use your new credit card both online and in stores as soon as you're approved.

Here's how it works:

  • Apply for the Walmart card. Upon approval, you'll receive credentials for a temporary shopping pass. Those credentials are good for 10 days.

  • Set up a Walmart online account, if haven't done it already.

  • Add your temporary shopping pass to Walmart Pay. Once you've added the pass, you can start shopping.

  • Update Walmart Pay with your "permanent" information after your physical card arrives in the mail.

The app works with iOS or Android phones. You can load all major credit, debit, prepaid or Walmart gift cards onto Walmart Pay. To make a purchase in a store, you use your phone to scan a QR code that appears at the register.

About the Walmart credit card

The Capital One® Walmart Rewards™ Mastercard® has no annual fee and earns:

  • 5% back on purchases at Walmart.com and items purchased through the Walmart app (including items purchases online for in-store pickup).

  • 2% back on in-store Walmart purchases and at Murphy USA and Walmart gas stations.

  • 2% back on travel and restaurants.

  • 1% back on all other purchases.

New cardholders also get 5% back on in-store purchases made with Walmart Pay in the first 12 months.

Rewards on the card are earned as points that can be redeemed for 1 cent apiece. A purchase at Walmart.com, for example, earns 5 points, or the equivalent of 5% cash back. You can cash in points to reduce your balance with a credit, apply them during online checkout to make purchases, redeem them for gift cards, or use them to book travel through Capital One.

Other cards you can use instantly
