Amazon Prime Day is July 16-17, 2024. Like last year, new deals will be added throughout the event, and Prime members can request special access to exclusive invite-only deals.

Born in 2015, Prime Day is the made-up sale holiday brainchild of Amazon. It’s a limited-time summer sale with an exclusive guest list — Amazon Prime members. In 2022, Amazon started doing another Prime Day-like event in the fall.

Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days (basically Prime Day 2.0) was Oct. 10-11, 2023.

What is Prime Day?

In the retail world, Prime Day stands alongside Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a go-to shopping event for good buys in many product categories. Past installments of Prime Day have included price cuts on everything from Echo devices to toilet bowl lights.

When is the next Prime Day?

Prime Day 2024 is July 16-17, with an official start time of 12:01 a.m. PDT on July 16. Use the sale to buy what you need, but do your research first and plan to cross shop the competition.

When is Amazon Prime Day October?

Prime Big Deal Days, another Prime Day-like sale geared toward early holiday shopping, took place Oct. 10-11 and proved to be a good opportunity for savvy shoppers to jump into Black Friday early.

Amazon had invite-only deals on popular items and dropped new deals throughout the two-day event, which opened at 3 a.m. ET on Oct. 10.

What do you need to do?

If you want to shop the sales, you’ll need to be a Prime member. Amazon Prime costs $139 per year or $14.99 per month. New Prime members get a 30-day free trial before paying.

With a Prime Student membership, eligible college students and people ages 18 to 24 pay $69 per year or $7.49 per month after a 6-month trial. Some recipients of government assistance may also be eligible for a discounted rate.

And keep your options open. Amazon’s events tend to spur copycat sales from other retailers such as Target, Walmart, Best Buy and others.
