Mortgage rates this week
Mortgage rates dropped in the week ending Jan. 23 on better-than-expected inflation news.
The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.94% APR, down 12 basis points from the previous week's average, according to rates provided to NerdWallet by Zillow. A basis point is one one-hundredth of a percentage point.
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.08% APR, down 18 basis points from the previous week's average.
The 5-year adjustable-rate mortgage averaged 7.29% APR, down 12 basis points from the previous week's average.
Mortgage interest rates fell after the market digested the data from the December consumer price index. It showed that core prices — all items except food and energy — rose more slowly than investors had forecasted.
