Being an Alaska Airlines MVP Gold 75K comes with plenty of perks to elevate your travel experience, but did you know that one of the greatest benefits isn’t even for yourself?

Each year that you qualify as an MVP Gold 75K, you can gift MVP status — Alaska Airlines’ entry-level elite status — to a friend or family member. Here's what you need to know to use this benefit.

The benefits of MVP Gold 75K

But first, let's recap the what's included in Alaska Airlines’ top status tier, MVP Gold 75K:

  • Mileage bonus of 125% on every Alaska Airlines flight.

  • 50,000 bonus miles when you re-qualify as a 75K every year.

  • Four confirmed Gold guest upgrades to first class.

  • Four complimentary day passes to any Alaska Lounge.

  • Unlimited upgrades to first class, premium class or extra legroom, when available.

  • Two free checked bags for you and your companions.

  • Ability to nominate someone for MVP status.

Steps to gift Alaska's MVP status

Provide your information

The nomination process is simple. First, go to Alaska Airlines Nominate a Friend or Family Member to MVP Status webpage and fill out the form.

You will be asked for your own information as a nominating member, including full name, Mileage Plan number and email address.

Input your nominee's information

Then, enter the same information for the person you’d like to nominate.

You will then see a confirmation of your submission.

Wait for approval

Someone at Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan will review the information and process the nomination. Once the decision has been made, the recipient will get a confirmation email welcoming them to their new status.

As the giver, you will not receive confirmation that the nomination was approved. If you’d like to make sure things went well, check with your friend or family member.

What Alaska's MVP includes

After your recipient’s nomination is approved, they will start enjoying benefits of MVP status right away:

  • 50% bonus on base miles earning.

  • Unlimited upgrades when available.

  • Two free checked bags.

  • Priority boarding and check-in.

That 50% bonus on base miles earned means more miles every time they fly, helping them get to the next status level faster while accruing redeemable miles more quickly.

The unlimited upgrades work like this: Whenever a better seat is available on the same flight, they will have access to the extra legroom and all other benefits of that cabin — whether it's first class or premium class.

🤓Nerdy Tip

You can give this benefit to one person every year, but it doesn't always have to be the same person. You may change the person annually or renominate the same person; keep in mind that you're required to resubmit the nomination form annually.

How Alaska Airlines status is getting even better

In March 2021, Alaska Airlines joins the Oneworld alliance — a group of 13 airlines, of which American Airlines was a founding member, that partner to provide benefits to travelers. MVP status members in the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan will automatically qualify for Oneworld Ruby status.

Ruby status is good for extra perks across every airline in the Oneworld alliance, including American Airlines, British Airways and Cathay Pacific.

Other benefits of this status include access to business class priority check-in and complimentary preferred or pre-reserved seating. Oneworld Ruby status holders are also given priority when they're on a waitlist and on standby, giving members the leg up over other passengers who have no status.

The bottom line

If you’ve earned MVP Gold 75K status in Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, you have the opportunity to give a friend or family member a better way to travel for a year. And because your recipient’s new MVP status gets them 50% more miles every time they fly, your gift could help them continue to enjoy elite status for years to come. Plus, with Alaska Airlines becoming a member of the far-reaching Oneworld alliance, your gift can go even further.
