Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money.

Chase Ultimate Rewards® is one of the main transferrable point programs. It offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to using its points, including the ability to combine between your accounts (if you have multiple Chase credit cards) and transfer points from one Chase cardholder to another. There are many instances in which you’d want to take advantage of these options and the process is fairly simple.

In fact, you may be able to increase the value of your Chase points by transferring them from one credit card account to another. Here are a few things you should know first:

  • There is no fee to combine Chase points.

  • There is no limit on the number of points that can be transferred.

  • Chase allows points to transfer back and forth between cards with the same primary cardholder, as well as to a different primary cardholder in the same household/address.

In other words, the cash-back credit cards can help you earn more Chase Ultimate Rewards® points, particularly on bonus categories.

For example, let’s say you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, which earns 5% cash back (or 5 Ultimate Rewards® points per $1) on the first $25,000 spent on purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services. If you pay $200 per month in internet and phone bills, you’d earn 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards® points per month if you use your Ink Business Cash® Credit Card.

But before redeeming the points earned on your Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, consider combining your rewards. By consolidating your points onto the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, you’ll have more redemption options — including the ability to transfer points to a travel partner. Bonus: Your points are worth more if you redeem them for travel in Chase's travel portal.

Thankfully, the process to combine points between cards is quick and easy.

How to transfer points between Chase cards

The steps to transfer Ultimate Rewards® to another card are straightforward.

1. Go to Chase's travel portal

Visit the Chase website or use the Chase mobile app to log in to your Chase account. Next, you’ll want to navigate to Chase's travel portal.

2. Choose the card that you want to transfer points from

Once in the portal, you’ll be prompted to select a Chase card. Choose the card from which you want to transfer your points to begin the process. You’ll see the total available points for each card and other important details about each card.

3. Select the “Earn/Use” button and select “Combine Points”

Select the “Earn/Use” button to expand the left menu bar. Next, navigate to the “Combine Points” option — the last option on the menu. That step will take you to where you need to go to transfer your points between cards.

4. Select the cards you want to transfer points between

You’ll see all of your Chase cards displayed on the next screen. Select the cards you plan to transfer your points from and to so that you can begin the process of combining them.

5. Choose how many points you want to transfer

You’ll need to decide how many points you want to transfer. You can transfer all of your available points on that card or enter a number of your choosing. Once you select how many points you want to move, select “Review.”

6. Review the transfer and select “Confirm & Submit”

The final screen serves as a confirmation screen. Ensure all the details are correct and select the "Confirm & Submit" button if everything looks accurate. At this point, your points will be transferred over to the other card instantly.

It’s that simple. Now that you know how to transfer Ultimate Rewards® between accounts, you can transfer Chase points as often as you’d like.

When you would want to transfer points between Chase cards

If you have a Chase Ultimate Rewards®-earning credit card that offers better redemption values, you may want to transfer all your Chase points to that card.

For example, let's say you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Chase Freedom Unlimited®. When redeeming through Chase's travel portal, points earned on the Chase Sapphire Reserve® are worth 1.5 cents each, while points earned on the Chase Freedom Unlimited® are worth only 1 cent each. So you'll want to redeem the points sitting in the account belonging to the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

Can you transfer Chase points to another person?

You can transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards® points to another person, like a family member, spouse or friend. Chase allows you to move points to another Chase card that you own or to another Chase card that belongs to a member of your household. Any other points transfers are prohibited.

Similar to the example explained above, here’s an instance of when it might be beneficial to transfer your Chase points to a household member's Chase card:

If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, your points are worth 1.25 cents each within Chase's travel portal. So, if you have 100,000 points, they are worth $1,250 when redeemed. If your spouse has the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, points on that card are worth 1.5 cents each within Chase's travel portal. This means that if you have 100,000 points, they are worth $1,500 when redeemed.

By transferring your points to your spouse, all the points can be redeemed at 1.5 cents each, so you increase the value of your points by $250.

Why transferring Chase points between accounts can be a smart money move

You now know how to transfer Chase points to someone else and move points between your Chase accounts. But is it a good deal?

Simply put: Yes. Here's why.

  • Increased value. By transferring points between Chase accounts, you raise the value of your points. The value of Chase points varies depending on your card and the redemption choice you make. Some Chase cards offer more value when redeemed through Chase's travel portal, while other Chase cards offer less value when redeemed the same way. If you have multiple Chase credit cards in your wallet, transferring points to the card that offers the most value is the best way to make your points go further.

  • Pooled points. Consolidating points might make planning and booking your next trip easier. Once you have your Chase Ultimate Rewards® points moved over to the card that offers the highest value, you can book your trip quickly from one account.

Final thoughts on when to transfer Chase points

A Chase points transfer between cards is easy and quick to do. Before you rush to redeem Chase points, consider your redemption plan and calculate the value of your Chase Ultimate Rewards® points. You may be able to increase the value of your points by transferring them to another Chase credit card that offers a higher-value redemption.
