Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money.

Chase has a partnership with DoorDash that offers a complimentary DashPass subscription to certain cardholders. DoorDash is a food, grocery and merchandise delivery service serving dozens of cities in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan and Germany.

A few of these credit cards also provide $5 monthly cash credits to use on DoorDash orders.

What is DashPass?

When you place an order on DoorDash, you’ll pay for the order, along with taxes, delivery fees, service fees and a tip (optional). These fees can add up. So if you order food often, a DashPass subscription can save you money.

DashPass offers unlimited free delivery for any order over $12 placed on DoorDash.

Here’s an example order on DoorDash showing the potential savings with DashPass.

According to DoorDash, DashPass members save $4-$5 in delivery fees per order. The variety of restaurants ranges from small eateries to larger chains like The Cheesecake Factory, Chipotle and Burger King. Restaurants that are eligible for DashPass feature a green P logo next to their name.

In addition to restaurants, you can also order groceries, alcohol, flowers, gifts, pet supplies, beauty products and more through DoorDash. Download the app to see the options available in your area.

A DashPass subscription usually costs $9.99 per month, but certain Chase credit card holders receive a complimentary membership. If you often order food delivery and your orders usually exceed $12, DashPass can provide considerable savings on orders, especially when you factor in tax, tip and delivery fees.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card
NerdWallet rating

In addition to a DashPass subscription, holders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and J.P. Morgan Reserve cardmembers receive a $5 monthly DoorDash credit, further reducing costs on delivery orders.

Credits that aren't used within the month can be rolled over for two calendar months, providing much more time and flexibility to use the credits. That means you can accrue up to $15 in credits before a $5 credit expires.

Authorized users will also earn the monthly $5 DoorDash credit each month when enrolled in DashPass. This benefit is available for up to seven authorized users.

How to sign up for DashPass subscription

To take advantage of this benefit, new and existing cardholders must register their eligible credit card as the default payment in the DoorDash app and activate their membership.

Cardholders can also sign up and activate their membership at this website.

Is DashPass worth it?

DoorDash is convenient for those who want food, groceries, flowers and other conveniences delivered. Given the delivery fee savings, DashPass could be worth keeping if you live in a city with multiple restaurants that you frequently order from. DoorDash service isn't available in every city.

And keep in mind that service fees can still be applied during busy periods, which may be frustrating, especially during the free trial period.

If you typically order meals under $12 or don’t live in a city with establishments that participate, keeping DashPass after the promo period may not be worth it since the delivery fee would not be waived.

How to cancel DashPass

If you want to cancel DashPass, it's easy to do. You’ll need to log into the website or app and cancel at least one day before the upcoming renewal. So if your subscription renews on March 15, you must cancel by 11:59 p.m. PST on March 14.

If you have a subscription, you will still have your benefits through the end of the billing period. However, if you end your membership during a trial, you’ll lose your benefits immediately.

To cancel on the website or app, head over to your account section and then select “Manage DashPass.” Then, choose “End Subscription.” You will need to confirm the cancellation on the next page by tapping “End Subscription.”

Frequently asked questions

DashPass costs $9.99 per month. However, if you have certain Chase credit cards, you may get a complimentary 12-month subscription to DashPass.

To cancel an order, open the app and select your order from the “Orders” tab. Select “Help” in the top-right corner and under the Help Menu section, select “Cancel Order.”

It depends on when you cancel your order. You can get a full refund if the restaurant has not confirmed your order and no Dasher has been assigned. You can get a partial refund if either the restaurant has not confirmed the order or a Dasher has not been assigned. Once both the order is confirmed and a Dasher is assigned, you cannot get a refund.

Technically yes, but you will need to contact DoorDash support through its Contact Customer Support page and fill out a form. You’ll need to provide details about why you want to cancel your tip, and DoorDash is under no obligation to make the change if it feels it is unreasonable.

If DoorDash or the restaurant cancels your order, you will either get a credit or a refund, depending on the timing of the cancellation. If your card shows the charge as “pending,” it may just go away in one to three business days. If a charge is posted to your card’s account already, you may see a negative amount (credit) show up in five to seven business days.

If you have missing or incorrect items that you were charged for on your DoorDash order, you should find the “Order Issues” section within the “Help” portion of the app or website and pick the appropriate issue. The customer service team will assist you from there in terms of issuing a credit, refund or the redelivery of items.
