"Star Wars" fans, mark your calendars for an important, not-so-very-far-away date.

The highly anticipated "Star Wars"-themed land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, will open May 31 at Disneyland Park in California. Walt Disney World will open its version at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida on Aug. 29. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will transport visitors to the remote planet of Batuu, where they can enjoy rides, food, shops and entertainment that mimic "Star Wars" movies.

If you want to be one of the first to explore the new area of the Disney parks, you’ll have to make reservations. From May 31 - June 23, guests will need both a Disneyland theme park ticket and a reservation to enter Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge to experience the new attractions.

Disney will announce how to make reservations at a later date, but there is one way to get ahead of the rush for reservations. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during the restricted opening period will receive a Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation for each person in the room.

Here’s what visitors can expect at the new land.

Rides

Only one of the two planned rides in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be operating on opening day at both parks. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will be ready for guests immediately, letting riders play different roles of pilots, gunners and flight engineers in the famed spaceship’s cockpit.

The Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride is set to open later this year. Disney is calling it “the most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined.” Riders fight the First Order and face off with Kylo Ren.

Food

The “galactic food and beverages” that will be featured in the new land include the suspiciously colored Blue Milk and Green Milk as seen in “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.”

Guests will find lots of options at the food market and Oga’s Cantina, where Rex, the former Starspeeder 3000 pilot droid from the original Star Tours, will be moonlighting as resident DJ. The cantina will also be the first restaurant at Disneyland to serve alcohol.

Music

It wouldn’t be a "Star Wars" land without the legendary soundtrack. Composer John Williams has even written new themes for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Guests can expect to hear new cantina jingles as well as the iconic fanfare from the "Star Wars" films.

Souvenirs

Guests wishing to take home a piece of the imaginative galaxy can customize their memorabilia. At the Droid Depot, visitors can build their own interactive robots. Savi’s Workshop gives guests the chance to choose their sides and craft their own lightsabers.

Mobile app experience

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the first land within a Disney park designed to integrate with the Play Disney Parks mobile app. App users can complete missions, translate galactic languages and interact with droids in the land. The app gives guests another way to play while exploring Batuu.
