Overall

4.5

Many credit unions offer better interest rates than banks do, but they also may have narrow membership requirements and less polished technology. But Alliant Credit Union combines the best of both worlds with broad membership criteria, great rates and a good tech experience.

Horrible banking
Horrible experience with this credit union. I was treated very poorly. I have been e new member for a few months, last week my husband wrote me a check so that I could have some money in my new bank account. The bank saw the check as 'dubious' and froze my whole bank account without notifying me (including the little money I already had deposited when I opened the account). In the meantime I went ahead and payed for bills which bounced and I am now finding my self paying extra fees for late payments and bounced checks. Alliant is not willing to pay me back for those fees, regardless of their mistake of NOT informing me that my account was frozen. I will close my account as soon as my money is released. Don't make the mistake to open an account with this FRAUDULENT credit union. Worst experience, worst costumer service!

Already Closing My Account
I opened this account because of the NerdWallet rating Alliant had, and initially, they seemed to be a good organization. I never received my ATM/debit card, so the only access I have to funds are ACH transfers, which is fine unless I need them faster than 2-3 days. Communication with customer service is like dealing with big banking in that it takes days to hear back from anyone, and when you do talk to someone it doesn't seem to yield results. I've requested to close my account after only two months and have decided to go with a local organization.
