Overall

4.5

Many credit unions offer better interest rates than banks do, but they also may have narrow membership requirements and less polished technology. But Alliant Credit Union combines the best of both worlds with broad membership criteria, great rates and a good tech experience.

Get stuck on hold to hear how wrong you are. They feel like a huge bank but I get way better service from Chase.

I was paying my car loan off and the representative with Alliant asked me to email him a letter of request for them to deduct the specific amount for the payoff along with the address to send the payment. .I sent him the letter through email, and I included the address for the finance company . I was also charged $18 for the Fed Ex overnight payment. I called later that night and even the next day asking for the tracking number or the check number to reference for the finance company. Several representatives told me that the check was already sent and that they needed to wait for the mailroom to email a tracking number. The original rep even emailed me that he could not provide me a copy of the check because it was already put in the mail. Finally I got a supervisor on the phone and he admitted that the check was NEVER MAILED because there was no address forwarded from the original representative on where to send the money. Needless to say I was very unhappy and it was not due to the error as much as it was the lies and the omission of the truth from each representative that I spoke with. Instead of them stating they didn't have the information, they kept me on the hook stating that the mailroom needed to email them the information and they would in turn forward the info to me. How in the world can I trust this institution with my money if they lie about sending a cashier's check. I can't. Nerd Wallet should review their reviews and create another list that is more true. Alliant does not train their representatives to pay attention to detail or tell the truthful answer even if that is saying " I don't know but let me get an answer for you" instead of "We have to wait on the mailroom"
