Overall

4.5

Connexus Credit Union checking accounts are stellar, with the potential to earn high rates. Its website and online and mobile banking platforms are also generally helpful. The credit union is part of shared ATM and branch networks across credit unions nationwide. But its savings accounts don’t have high rates.

Ratings methodology | Updated March 18, 2019

Checking

4.5

Xtraordinary checking offers an annual percentage yield of 1.75% for balances up to $25,000, plus up to $25 in rebates to cover out-of-network domestic ATM fees. To get both perks, you have to meet several spending and deposit requirements and accept paperless statements. Money above $25,000 earns 0.25% APY. If requirements aren’t fulfilled, the APY drops to 0.20% for that month.

The Innovative and MyRewards checking accounts weren’t factored into our ratings, but both are good options; neither one charges a monthly service fee, either. Innovative checking is a basic account that does not pay interest. MyRewards, meanwhile, offers an APY of 1.35% on balances up to $25,000, but you’ll have to meet a few requirements.

Not worth it
Many many errors with my HELOC. they sent me a different customer’s paperwork to sign, they included the wrong APR, they made up a different salary than what I submitted and then said it was my error - everything was bad. Their website is completely non functional and they don’t seem to give a darn. On the bright side, when I told them their 3% teaser HELOC loan wasn’t worth the three months it was taking to set up the loan and all the hassle, they agreed to extend it for an additional 12 months. All in all, if you can avoid them, I’d think that was best. (Have to day, their customer service people were friendly enough, and clearly experienced in correcting mistakes)

lose 50%+ of deposit???
whatever rate they pay...not worth it if you lose half your deposit. have an HSA. they are supposed to record contributions prior to 4/15 in previous tax year if you request. they tell you they will, but file forms wrong. they refuse to correct them, leaving you exposed to penalties, taxes, interest and a flag for an audit. only when I threatened to take them to the IRS did they cave and correct the errors, and then simply go back to business as usual for the future. this is a very dangerous place with a "unique" idea of customer service.
