Overall

4.5

Connexus Credit Union checking accounts are stellar, with the potential to earn high rates. Its website and online and mobile banking platforms are also generally helpful. The credit union is part of shared ATM and branch networks across credit unions nationwide. But its savings accounts don’t have high rates.

Ratings methodology | Updated March 18, 2019

Checking

4.5

Xtraordinary checking offers an annual percentage yield of 1.75% for balances up to $25,000, plus up to $25 in rebates to cover out-of-network domestic ATM fees. To get both perks, you have to meet several spending and deposit requirements and accept paperless statements. Money above $25,000 earns 0.25% APY. If requirements aren’t fulfilled, the APY drops to 0.20% for that month.

The Innovative and MyRewards checking accounts weren’t factored into our ratings, but both are good options; neither one charges a monthly service fee, either. Innovative checking is a basic account that does not pay interest. MyRewards, meanwhile, offers an APY of 1.35% on balances up to $25,000, but you’ll have to meet a few requirements.

Overall good experience so far
Have been here for a little over a year. Online banking is super easy to use, much better than my last credit Union. This is my main financial now after being at my last credit Union all my life. I usually dont need much assistance but the customer service has been good the few times I've spoke to them. I get money back on my account which is a first in my books. Usually end of with $5 a month in dividends which isn't too bad for just using my account the way I always have been. I would recommend if you are a millennial like me and want an easy online banking experience. I'm guessing many of these negative reviews may be from older people who may not benefit from the online banking world.

Worst loan experience
I took out a loan on a vehicle about 4 months ago and have had nothing but problems since. On day 1 I set up auto draft, being told it would take effect immediately, only to be hit with a past due fee the following month. I was told over the phone that they never got the electronic submission for autodraft, but that was 'another department' and that I should send in a written copy by mail. I did this, and waited, but then got hit with ANOTHER fee when it wasn't autodrafted properly (even called in to see if I needed to make a payment before the due date just in case and the agent said no). To date, my account is still not correct. In addition to the issues with autodraft, this has been my experience: -Agents give conflicting information: I have not had the same story from two agents. Some have said that autodraft was cancelled because their was a past due on the account, while others said that wouldn't affect it. I have even spoken with an agent, asked for her supervisor, who gave me opposing information, then shrugged off when I highlighted it to her. NO CARE OR ACCOUNTABILITY -You can't make an electronic payment without a fee ($10-15 per payment): Fee when you make a payment by CC over the phone (normal), Don't take checking account over the phone (not normal), Fee when paying online either by CC or bank account (is this 1995?!?) -Website is super glitchy: I haven't had a single time that I logged in to their website that it wasn't a fight to get where I needed to go. Constant error and page failures -You have to request to be able to enable your account online to make a payment: you cannot make a payment via the website unless you call them and get them to enable 'outside account connectivity' to your account then wait a few days for test deposits to be made to validate. This is the only time that I've had to jump through so many hoops just to make a payment on a loan. Ultimately, this is a shoddy credit union with low standards. They nickle and dime with fees to make up for the risk they take with higher risk loans. Expect to pay a couple extra percentage points per year in unexpected fees. For me, this wasn't worth it. I'm working to get my loan to another lender.
