Overall

4.0

Connexus Credit Union checking accounts are stellar, with the potential to earn high rates. Its website and online and mobile banking platforms are also generally helpful. The credit union’s savings accounts, however, aren’t especially noteworthy, and members don’t have access to many branch locations.

Ratings methodology | Updated Aug. 24, 2018

Checking

5.0

Xtraordinary checking offers an annual percentage yield of 1.75% for balances up to $25,000. You will, however, have to meet several spending and deposit requirements and accept paperless statements to qualify. If you’re able to satisfy these requirements, Connexus will cover up to $25 for fees racked up at other banks’ domestic ATMs.

The Innovative and MyRewards checking accounts weren’t factored into our ratings, but both are good options; neither one charges a monthly service fee. Innovative checking is a basic account that does not pay interest. MyRewards, meanwhile, offers an APY of f 1.35% on balances up to $25,000, but you’ll have to meet a few requirements.

Very knowledgeable staff
Just opened new 5 year certificate at highest rate in country. I have CDs at 4 credit unions and 3 banks. The current Connexus Credit Union website is easy to use and staff is knowledgeable and easy to reach by phone (just press "0" since you won't have an extension at first). Once the CD was set up I even got a personal call back and extension to call for any concerns. So far I would rate Connexus above my other financial institutions. Not at all what I would have expected from the other reviews I read on NerdWallet. I have found that in general credit unions offer better rates to their members than banks but do charge for services. So just depends on what is most important to you.

Waste of Time
I get tons of emails from them about refinancing. I had an approval from another bank, but I decided to check with them because of the 90 days no payments. I got through the process and I was told I was approved; they did hit my credit twice. I submitted my information; they asked me to fill out a checking application. I did because it was approved. This was a week ago. I can't get the girl on the phone that was dealing with my file. She left me a voicemail. I'd call her within minutes and goes to vm. I called anyone I could to get someone on the line, but no one could help me. Today the other loan was going expire so I called again. I called this morning, left the girl a vm that she can email me to call her back. She didn't try to call me today. I Had to sit on hold for 10 minutes for a girl to tell me I was declined for the loan. She could not tell me why.
