Military-based membership: You can join Navy Fed if you’ve served in a branch of the U.S. armed forces on active duty or as a reservist, if you’ve worked for the Department of Defense or a DOD contractor, or if you’re immediate family of someone eligible for membership.

 

Why join: If you live near a branch or don’t mind banking online, you can find mostly no-fee checking and savings accounts and high rates on share certificates.

long lines horrible customer service
I stood in line for 25 minutes... there was only one teller helping customers. he was occupied with customer opening an account while myself and others were trying to do banking. we were told computers were down to explain why the other agent was on the phone. overall horrible first experience of this new branch

Navy Federal does very little to help veterans with other financial goals, such as loans and mortgages. They offer great rates, but deny you any chance they can. They do not partner with other state or federal programs that are provided to individuals making it impossible to take advantage of benefits offered.
