Looking for a quick way to rack up travel rewards? You’re in luck: Hilton is offering members of its HHonors program 1,000 bonus points to customers who change their account login passwords before March 25, 2015.

The Nerds explain how to take advantage of this unique opportunity below.

Earn 1,000 HHonors points in just a few clicks

Almost every entity that issues online accounts — banks, subscription services and publications, for example — will ask customers to change their account login information from time to time. To maintain account and site security, Hilton is requiring HHonors members to change their passwords by April 1, 2015.

But if you update your login information ahead of schedule, you’ll get a 1,000-point bonus. This offer is applicable to HHonors members who had an open account before March 12, 2015 and change their passwords by March 25, 2015. You should expect it to take six to eight weeks for the bonus to be deposited into your HHonors account.

How much are 1,000 HHonors points worth?

The value of hotel loyalty points can vary wildly depending on factors such as the property you choose, the city you’re staying in and the dates of your stay. The Nerds value Hilton HHonors points at about .5 cents apiece, but you could stand to get substantially more out of each if you’re savvy about booking smart.

It’s also worth noting that you can book an award night with as few as 5,000 HHonors points. This means that getting 1,000 points just for changing your password could get you 20% of the way to a free night.

Boost your HHonors points balance with the Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Visa Signature® Card

Another great way to rake in extra HHonors points is by using the Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Visa Signature® Card. With it, you’ll earn 6 HHonors points for every dollar spent at Hilton properties; 3 points for every dollar spent at grocery stores, drugstores and gas stations; and 2 points for every dollar spent elsewhere. You’ll also achieve automatic silver status in the HHonors program just for being a card member.

For a really quick rush of points, the Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Visa Signature® Card offers a signup bonus: Earn 75,000 Hilton HHonors™ Bonus Points after making $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening*. The annual fee is $0, so it’s tough not to come out ahead with this card. Happy hoteling!
