The Barclaycard Ring® Mastercard® has eliminated its introductory 0% interest period, knocking it out of the ranks of the best balance-transfer cards.
This card has always had an annual fee of $0, and it is one of the few credit cards that never charges a fee to transfer a balance. In February 2017, Barclaycard sweetened the deal by adding an introductory 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months. That gave the card the rare “zero trio” of balance transfer benefits: a $0 annual fee, a $0 transfer fee and a 0% introductory interest rate.
As of Feb. 1, 2018, that 0% period is history. However, Barclaycard also lowered the ongoing APR on the card, which had been 13.99%, to 10.74%. Essentially, the Barclaycard Ring® Mastercard® is back to what it was before February 2017: A decent option for people who tend to carry a balance from month to month and need a relatively low ongoing APR to save on interest.
A few cards still offer some variation of the zero trio, including:
- The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express. Annual fee: $0. No balance transfer fee; transfers must be made within the first 60 days of account opening. Intro APR of 0% on Purchases and Balance Transfers for 15 months, and then the ongoing APR of 14.74% - 25.74% Variable APR. Bonus: Unlike many cards with a great balance-transfer offer, this card offers rewards.
- Chase Slate®. Annual fee: $0. Introductory $0 fee for balance transfers made during the first 60 days of account opening (after that: 5% of the transferred amount, with a $5 minimum). Intro APR of 0% on Purchases and Balance Transfers for 15 months, and then the ongoing APR of 16.49% - 25.24% Variable APR
