If you’re a California resident, count your Thanksgiving-time blessings: You still have two more weeks to cash in on what is perhaps the greatest Southwest promotion of all time.

Eligible California residents who apply for a Southwest credit card through this link can earn a coveted Companion Pass after qualifying and making a purchase on their account. Qualified applicants will also earn the regular sign-up bonus offered on the card they sign up for. This offer expires on Nov. 30, 2017, so act fast. Read our comparison to see which Southwest card is best for you.

Whichever card you end up applying for, this is an outstanding offer. Why? Because whether you’re a frequent Southwest flyer or a once-in-a-while vacationer, this deal gives you unbelievably easy access to Southwest’s Companion Pass, the airline’s most sought-after loyalty status. The pass allows you to choose one person to fly free with you every time you purchase or redeem points for a flight (except for taxes and fees). If you often travel with a companion on Southwest, it’s basically like getting half off on all your airfare. If you fly frequently, you could potentially save thousands of dollars.

Normally, you have to qualify for the Companion Pass in one of two ways:

  • By earning 110,000 Companion Pass qualifying points in a calendar year
  • By flying 100 Southwest Airlines qualifying one-way flights in a calendar year

Getting the pass after you make your first purchase on your card is, of course, much easier than taking 100 one-way flights.

Companion passes are valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which you earn them, and the entire following calendar year. Passes earned with this promotion will expire on Dec. 31, 2018, according to the terms.

This deal becomes even sweeter when you consider that Southwest just recently announced it would begin service to Hawaii in 2018. Assuming service begins as planned and the Companion Pass terms remain the same, you may be able to use the pass to snag two tickets to Hawaii — a notoriously expensive travel destination — for the price of one.

To be sure, not everyone will qualify for this outstanding promotion. Some requirements:

  1. You have to be a California resident with a California address.
  2. You need to make a purchase on the new card.
  3. The card needs to be opened between Oct. 19 and Nov. 30.

The offer also isn’t available to current cardholders or previous cardholders who earned a bonus for this card in the last 24 months, according to the terms. Eligibility isn’t guaranteed.

But if you fly Southwest, have good credit and meet the eligibility requirements, this will probably be the most valuable promotion you take advantage of all year.
