Meals on Wheels is the oldest and largest nonprofit dedicated to senior nutrition. Present and vocal in all 50 U.S. States and U.S. territories, MOWAA serves an astounding 1 million meals every single day, providing food in senior centers and delivering meals directly to the homes of seniors. In their combined network of local Senior Nutrition Programs, they also fondly boast having a volunteer “army” ranging somewhere above 800,000 members. MOWAA is currently involved in projects dedicated to educating the public about these issues, and educating seniors on health and nutrition issues, as well as standardizing guidelines for emergency preparedness and food safety.
The MOWAA is also partnered with the Meals on Wheels Research Foundation, which conducts research on senior hunger and senior nutrition. The MOWRF estimates that a large increase of seniors is now in danger of going hungry. In light of this, they have begun a new national push to recruit members and have released goals of ending senior hunger entirely by 2020. We support their work, their goals, and hope to help in their education efforts.
