Looking for a gift for the book lovers in your life? Consider checking out the Black Friday deals and picking up a bargain on an e-reader or tablet computer.

When it comes to digital reading, the popular Kindle from Amazon is one of the best known e-reader series on the market, and Amazon’s extensive collection of e-books offers the broadest selection you’ll find online. For added functionality, consider a tablet from the Kindle’s Fire HD and Fire HDX lines.

Not sure where you’ll find the best bargain? Read ahead to discover the best sales available this season for each model: the classic Kindle eReader, the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Fire HD (6-inch, 7-inch and kids’ versions) and Fire HDX (7-inch and 8.9-inch) tablets.

Kindle (6-inch)

The cheapest in the Kindle family, this standard e-reader offers an affordable entry into the world of digital reading, along with 4GB of internal storage.

The 6-inch grayscale screen features a touchscreen display designed to eliminate screen glare. At 6.7 ounces, the device is light enough to hold and carry comfortably, and the battery lasts up to four weeks.

Current price at Amazon: $79

Black Friday offers:

  • Best Buy: $49.99 (regularly $79.99)
  • Fred Meyer: $49 (regularly $79)
  • Staples: Free Kindle eReader with purchase of a laptop regularly priced $399 and above (regularly $79)
  • Staples: $49 (regularly $79) (in-store only)

The best offer you’ll find is at Staples, where you can get a Kindle for free with the purchase of any laptop originally priced at more than $399. Alternatively, you can purchase the e-reader separately for $49 at Staples or Fred Meyer.

Kindle Paperwhite

This midrange e-reader offers comfort and flexibility. The 6-inch screen features a built-in light that evenly brightens your reading material to reduce eyestrain, and the black-and-white interface is crisper than those of its predecessors.

The 2GB Paperwhite lets you choose from among six typefaces and eight font sizes, and it also supports illustrated children’s e-books and parental controls.

Current price at Amazon: $119

Black Friday offers:

  • Amazon: $79 with 1-year ($99) membership to Amazon Prime
  • Fred Meyer: $99 (regularly $119)
  • Staples: $99 (regularly $119)

You’ll find the e-reader for $99 at Fred Meyer and Staples, but if you’ve been thinking about signing up for Amazon Prime, now is the time – purchase both the Paperwhite and a 1-year membership before 9 p.m. Pacific time Wednesday, Nov. 26, and you’ll get $40 off on the device, dropping its cost to only $79. At $99 a year, Amazon Prime membership offers you free 2-day shipping and lets you stream unlimited movies, TV shows and music.

Kindle Fire HD 6

At 6 inches, the Kindle Fire HD is a comfortably sized tablet that easily fits in your pocket when you’re on the go.

More than an e-reader, the full-functionality device has a quad-core processor to quickly load apps and videos, and the device offers two built-in cameras to take photos and chat over Skype. The tablet comes with a 8GB hard drive plus free, unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content and photos taken on the device.

Current price at Amazon: $99

Kindle Fire HD 7

Compared with its 6-inch sibling, the Fire HD 7 offers a 36% larger viewable area and dual stereo speakers, making the tablet a great choice for watching videos and movies. Otherwise, the 7-inch tablet offers the same quad-core processor, rear and front cameras, 8GB of internal storage and free, unlimited cloud backup as the HD 6.

Kindle Fire HD 6-inch kids’ edition

Available in green, pink or blue, this child-friendly tablet features full functionality, along with a durable case, parental controls and 2-year warranty.

Current price at Amazon: $149

Black Friday offers:

  • Meijer: Kindle Fire HD 6-inch Kids’ Edition (8GB): $149.99 plus $30 coupon
