As we approach the holiday shopping season, you might feel daunted by the idea of comparing Black Friday deals on your favorite items, including the Amazon Kindle. Luckily, we took the time to sift through all the latest buzz on the popular e-book readers turned tablets. We’ve got price comparisons on everything from from the latest Kindle HDX with its superior visuals and 24-7 help Mayday button, to the cheapest offer for a non-HD 7” Kindle Fire. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the deals!
Meijer is bringing on some major deals on Kindles this Black Friday. They’re offering $50 off of customers’ next purchase when they buy the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ 16GB tablet for $189. While the $50 discount goes towards the following purchase, if you’re already planning to do more holiday shopping at Meijer, your potential savings could add up to $130!
Similarly, the store is offering $40 towards the next purchase when you buy the 7″ Kindle Fire HD/HDX tablet at $139.
Best Buy is receiving lots of hype for its hundred-dollar deal on last year’s 7” Kindle Fire HD, 16GB. This Black Friday offer cuts $100 from this Kindle’s market price of $199.99, and as an additional bonus, this discount comes with no strings attached—no forgotten rebates, no in-store gift card, no members-only credit.
Staples will slash the the first-generation 7” Kindle Fire’s price in half, from the original market value of $159.99 to its Black Friday price of $79. Take note that this is the original Kindle Fire, as compared to the upgraded models of Kindle Fire HD or Kindle Fire HDX. Comparably, the larger, savvier 8.9” Kindle Fire HD at Staples has taken a $100 price-cut, from $269.99 to $169.00.
Staples is also offering an in-store $25 gift card to promote sales for the new generation of Amazon Kindles, reducing the price of the 7” Kindle Fire HD (8GB) from $139.99 to $114.99, and the 7” Kindle Fire HDX (16GB)from $229.99 to $204.99.
Office Depot’s price for the 7” Kindle Fire HD 8GB stands at $139.99, but it also comes with a $25 Visa gift card, which brings the total down to $114.99. Similarly, Office Depot carries the Kindle Fire HDX 7″ 16GB tablet, and that also comes with a $25 gift card. The new total after using the gift card would be $204.99, from an original price of $229.99.
OfficeMax is selling both the 7” and 8.9” Kindle Fire HD at $169. However, the 7″ model comes with $10 gift card, which brings it’s total down to $159. If the 7” is still less attractive, given that Best Buy and Office Depot are offering much lower deals, be sure to take a look at 8.9” model at the same price.
Toys”R”Us is getting in on the Black Friday Kindle sale game as well. It’s offering the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ tablet for $179.99. That’s $90 off! To boot, the toy store is offering $10 towards your next purchase for every $75 spent. If Toys”R”Us is your top destination for gifts for the little ones in your life, then the cash you earn on your Kindle purchase might be pretty helpful!
Finding a balance
To sum up, deals and steals on the Kindle abound. Best Buy certainly has the best deals on the oldest Kindle model, but Meijer has an excellent sale on the latest model, the Kindle HD/HDX. Everything in between is, well, in between! However, all of the deals listed above are the cream of the crop this holiday season. We suggest reading reviews on each model, and carefully considering which tablet and which price range will best match your particular needs.
Holiday shopping can certainly be incredibly stressful and extremely time-consuming. Luckily, we here at Nerdwallet are here to make sure that your shopping trip is worth your time.
