If you’re a rewards member or a club-card holder at a certain store, you’ll want to take advantage of any extra savings that can make your gift budget go further. After all, it’s not just the door buster low prices that are worth waiting in line for — some stores give twice the points, rewards, in-store bucks or gift cards during the holiday shopping season.
NerdWallet combed the Black Friday ads that have leaked so far and picked out some of the top rewards for shoppers who want to show their loyalty — and be rewarded for it. If you’re a member of a store that isn’t listed here, check back for our updated list of Black Friday ad specials.
Many stores focus their Black Friday ads primarily on rewards members, so it’s important to know whether great prices apply to any bargain hunter or members only. Here is a list of stores where most of the best deals are for members:
Prime members can expect early access to some of the deals this retailer is offering during the highly anticipated Black Friday sale. Anyone can shop the online store, but Prime members get a little something extra — 30 minutes extra, to be exact — with early access to more than 30,000 of Amazon’s “Lightning Deals.” Many of the best deals for Amazon are starting right now and will run through November.
This pet-supply store has many great deals to bark about this holiday season, though you have to be a Petco Pals Rewards cardholder. Signing up for Pals Rewards is free. Petco’s Black Friday sale will run both Friday and Saturday, and most merchandise, including dog beds and dog treats, will be discounted by 50%.
The store is already famous for its door buster deals, but the perks for Kohl’s Rewards members take it one step further. The normal deal of $5 back for every 100 points you earn is nothing compared with the offer on Black Friday. Kohl’s Rewards members can get $15 in Kohl’s Cash for every $50 spent between Nov. 23 and Nov. 29. The Kohl’s Cash must be redeemed between Nov. 30 and Dec. 6. Kohl’s will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Credit card holders find more perks
Holding a credit card at a department store can save you a lot, if you use it carefully. Certain retailers are thanking their credit card holders by offering them something extra.
Target’s REDcard earns shoppers 5% back on purchases all year-round. It may not sound like a lot, but on big shopping days like Black Friday, the bounce-back bucks can really add up. This year, Target offers its cardholders early online access starting Nov. 21 and, yes, the Black Friday deals apply that early. Free shipping is offered to Target cardholders and there is no annual fee. Target hasn’t listed any specific products for REDcard holders, but keep checking back because the retailer may announce membership perks before the big Black Friday event.
Enrolling in stores’ rewards clubs or getting their credit cards sometimes offers significant savings, but make sure to read the details before committing. Some store credit cards have high annual percentage rates, and others don’t offer sign-up deals. Check out NerdWallet’s credit card comparison for more information.
