Household appliance brand Black & Decker recently announced plans to release a new line of smart robots this spring. These robots have one purpose: cleaning your floors.

So what are these smart vacuums all about? We have what you need to know.

The upcoming line from Black & Decker will consist of three vacuum cleaner robots, collectively called the Smartech Robotic Vacuums.

The devices — which can work on both carpet and hard flooring, but not on stairs — will vary in price and functionality but will all be able to connect to the Black & Decker mobile app (free to download on iTunes and Google Play). This allows users to control the vacuum from a smartphone.

Within the app, vacuum owners can create a name for their vacuum (Rosie the robot maid, maybe?), choose from three cleaning modes, create a cleaning schedule, check the device’s battery level and tell it where to go.

The circular robots feature a 9-inch cleaning path and a clear 1-liter dustbin. Two of the three models allow users to select the color of the vacuum’s color-changing LED cover, and two of the three versions have an anti-tangle brush roll designed for picking up pet hair.

The Smartech robots are set for a late March 2017 release nationwide with a suggested retail price of $349 to $399. To stay in the know with product news, check Black & Decker’s website or sign up for the brand’s mailing list.

Thanks to smartphone apps, vacuum cleaners are increasingly becoming more connected and less taxing. The upcoming Black & Decker products will enter a market that’s already populated with a variety of smart robots, including the Dyson 360 Eye and the Neato Botvac D3 Connected.
