Best True Value Black Friday Deals From 2013

Home-improvement retail chain True Value offers a wide selection of products, including appliances, electronics, building materials, power tools and patio furniture. The hardware store also sells essential supplies for everything from painting projects to farm fencing.

In 2013, True Value debuted a five-page holiday-themed ad chock-full of Black Friday deals. The specials included savings of up to 58% on items as diverse as a dog bed and a remote-controlled helicopter. In addition to specific deals, the store also put out a coupon for 50% off any single item worth $50 or less. Black Friday deals lasted into the post-Thanksgiving weekend as well, with sales prices offered on both Saturday and Sunday.

Surprisingly, many of the store’s best offers weren’t on traditional home-improvement items at all. Standout deals – most of which were 50% off – were more décor-oriented. These included:

  • 200-Count LED C3 Light Sets: $19.99 (regularly $34.99)
  • 24-Inch Artificial Wreath: $3.99 (regularly $7.99)
  • 8-Piece Bake ‘N Store Set: $14.99 (regularly $29.99)
  • 63-Inch x 59-Inch Fleece Dog Blanket: $2.99 (regularly $5.99)
  • 2-Tone Hammock: $49.99 (regularly $99.99)
  • Folding Moon Chair: $19.99 (regularly $29.99)

Unfortunately, at least for weekend warriors and home renovators, the True Value 2013 Black Friday deals may have seemed slightly lackluster. For example, when it came to drills, tool organizers and gloves, competitors Home Depot and Lowe’s both offered a much broader selection and a greater number of sales.

The select number of “special purchase” tool-oriented deals that True Value did advertise included a three-piece tool combo set for $49.97, a 100-piece oscillating tool kit for $24.97, a 4-ton bottle jack for $9.99 and a 109-piece drill/drive accessory kit for $9.97.

Thus, if Black Friday shoppers were on the hunt for spectacular deals on power drills, they may have been better off shopping elsewhere. Those searching for holiday decorations or novelty items, however, found solid deals all the way around.

Also important to note about last year is the fact that True Value Discover cardholders were at a special advantage during the store’s Black Friday sales, as they were able to take advantage of a holiday financing special. Those who made a purchase using the card (minimum of $299) were charged zero interest if the balance was paid in full by January 2015.
