Whether it’s a new eyeliner pencil, a specialized shampoo or a specific hand lotion you’re after, deals offered on Black Friday and Cyber Monday offer the perfect opportunity to restock your bathroom cabinet with beauty products. From free gifts to storewide discounts, beauty retailers offered consumers a range of benefits last year.
Before stores release their ads for this year’s shopping season, here’s a look back at some of the best beauty deals of 2013.
Ulta Beauty: Beauty retailer Ulta released a four-page Black Friday ad last year, featuring cosmetics, fragrances and beauty tools at a discount. With dozens of items for less than $20, the sale included makeup, nail care and hair products. Among its best deals on cosmetics, Ulta offered the Starry Lights Light-Up Blockbuster eye shadow kit, valued at $200, for only $17. Shoppers could also pick up the three-piece bareMinerals eye kit, including eye shadow and mascara and valued at $44, for only $10. When it came to lip color, the three-piece Lip Lotto set from Benefit Cosmetics shone, selling for only $18 and valued at $54.
e.l.f. Cosmetics: Launched in 2004, e.l.f. Cosmetics targets women buying cosmetics on a budget. Although its name is short for “eyes lips face,” the retailer offers nail polish as well as standard makeup products. During its Cyber Monday sale, the store offered consumers a sitewide discount of 50% with a minimum purchase of $30. The promotion lasted through Tuesday and required the code CYBER50.
Lancôme: One of the best-known names in the beauty industry for more than 75 years, the Paris-based Lancôme offers luxury makeup, skincare and fragrances. During its Cyber Monday sale last year, shoppers who purchased a holiday set or any mascara received a free eyelash curler, a free sample and free shipping. The promotion required the code LASHLOVE.
Stila Cosmetics: With eye shadow, eye liner, lip gloss and beauty balm, Stila Cosmetics has your makeup needs covered. Last year, during its Cyber Monday promotion, the store offered 80% off on more than 50 items in its online warehouse. The retailer’s Cyber Monday sale was one of the longest promotions, lasting more than a week past Cyber Monday and ending Dec. 9.
butter LONDON: Offering cosmetics for your eyes, lips, face and nails, the UK-based butter LONDON promises “high-fashion” color without parabens, phthalates or formaldehyde. During the beauty retailer’s Cyber Monday sale last year, all regularly priced products were 20% off, while “last-call” items were marked down 50%. Online shoppers could apply the discount by using the code CYBER13.
Body care deals
The Body Shop: With more than 2,500 stores around the world, The Body Shop is one of the major players in the beauty market. Based in the UK, the retailer offers a broad range of products, from body scrubs and moisturizers with SPF to cosmetics and hair care. During its Cyber Monday deals last year, shoppers could get three products for $30, with each additional product at only $10. Furthermore, all customers who purchased at least $30 worth of products could buy a Black Friday tote of products valued at $108 for only $25.
Yes to Carrots: Based in San Francisco, Yes to Carrots is a line of natural beauty products, including moisturizers, hand soaps and lip balms. Made from fruits and vegetables such as blueberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, and, of course, carrots, Yes to Carrots products are designed for the face, lips, body and hair, and the company also features baby-safe shampoos and wipes. As part of the company’s “super-natural” image, its products are free of parabens, petroleum and phthalates and made of recyclable materials. During its 24-hour sale last year, the store offered a 40% discount sitewide.
Nourish Organic: With the tagline “food for healthy skin,” Nourish Organic offers a line of beauty products certified organic by the same guidelines used for food. Shoppers can find face cleansers, serums, lotions, body wash, deodorant, hand wash and more. The website featured two major sales last year, offering a 50% discount on Black Friday with the code GREEN50 and 25% off on Cyber Monday with the code CYBER25.
Hair care highlights
Ouidad: From shampoos to conditioners to styling products, Ouidad offers specialized hair care for wavy, curly and kinky hair. During its sale last year, shoppers could receive a 20% discount on all orders and 25% off all orders of more than $60.
Miss Jessie’s: Specializing in curly-hair products, Miss Jessie’s offers cleansers, conditioners, moisturizing stylers and more. The sale kicked off early, beginning Nov. 10 and lasting through Dec. 3. No code needed, shoppers received a 40% discount and free shipping on all online orders.
Blowpro: Self-described as experts of “the perfect blowout,” Blowpro is the place to go for blow-dryer-approved hair products. The company’s online store features blow-dry lotion, anti-frizz serum, dry shampoo and more. During Black Friday last year, Blowpro offered a 25% discount on all orders with the code BLOWPROTHANKS.
