Whether you’ve just moved into a new dorm or apartment or you’re looking to decorate the house you’ve owned for years, Black Friday is the perfect time to purchase new items for the home. With dozens of sales everywhere from Home Depot to Bed Bath & Beyond, shoppers have a lot of choices when it comes to finding great deals.

To give you an idea of what to expect in this year’s Black Friday sales, here’s an overview of some of the less-publicized deals offered last year, from pillows to tables to blenders.

World of goods

If you’re looking for decorative items from around the world, make sure to stop by Cost Plus World Market. Last year, the specialty import retailer opened its doors at 7 a.m. on Black Friday, with the sale continuing through Saturday and Sunday. The first 100 customers in line received a free Downton Abbey tea cup in a gift box. From Friday through Sunday, all in-store purchases of at least $20 came with a free Abbey tote bag, with a new style each day, as supplies lasted.

Filling a similar niche with imported goods from around the globe, Pier 1 Imports featured a five-day sale last year, starting on Thanksgiving and running through Monday. With discounts of up to 30%, the sale featured great furniture choices at marked-down prices, including 20% off C-tables, $75 off jewelry armoires and deals on Papasan stools, including a Papasan with plush cushion that sold for $99.99 instead of $148.99. Other useful items for the home included mug sets (25% off) and desk frames (20% off).

Whether for the bedroom or the living room, Leah Singh offers hand-designed pillows for a personalized touch. Combining traditional Indian craft techniques with modern, geometric designs, the collection features a variety of vivid colors and earth tones. During Black Friday last year, the online store featured a 35% discount on its entire inventory.

Home sweet home

Furniture marks a major purchase, but you want something you can use for years to come without making a big dent in your wallet. Good thing furniture is among the best deals on Black Friday. Despite its name, Just Cabinets offers a broad range of furniture for all rooms in the house. Its Black Friday promotion last year included deals on furniture from desks to beds and, of course, cabinets. Some of the best discounts: a Saybrook sideboard for $499 ($450 off), a Stonybrook writing desk for $399 ($360 off) and a Bombay wine cabinet for $449 ($406 off).

Maybe your home has all the chairs and tables it needs, but it’s still missing a little something. If you’re looking to add a splash of color or a dab of personality to your space, check out Artsy Modern. Focusing on British and Scandinavian indie designers, the online store offers great products from aprons to shower curtains in cute and creative styles. You can find prints of hand-drawn animals to hang on your walls, typographic bookends for your shelves and polka-dotted tea towels to decorate your kitchen. Last year, from Thanksgiving through Dec. 1, a 30% discount was offered across the site. Purchases Dec. 2-7 qualified for free shipping.

Cooking up savings

Speaking of kitchens, Black Friday is the perfect opportunity to stock your cabinets with discounted cookware. At Williams-Sonoma, you can find quality pots and pans, appliances and more from high-end brands like Le Creuset, Vitamix and Miele. Last year, the store offered discounts both in its stores and on its website. Among its best deals, the Verismo 583 system by Starbucks featured a 50% discount. Furthermore, All-Clad slow cookers were marked down 50%, and Williams-Sonoma bakeware was discounted 20%. Customers who purchased a Vitamix blender received up to 65% off Vitamix containers. For online shoppers, free shipping was available for all orders with the code FREESHIP.

Bedroom and dorm deals

Even though Labor Day and Memorial Day are some of the best times to find discounts on mattresses, you can still snag some good deals during Black Friday sales. At Havertys last year, it paid to get up early: The first 50 customers at the store received a free coupon ranging in value from $50 to $250. Among the discounted mattresses, a Sealy firm queen set sold for $348 instead of its regular price of $479.99.

For college students, November marks the third or fourth month in the dorms. You’ve had time to settle in and make new friends, but that doesn’t mean your space is quite the way you want it. For more supplies and decorations, check out Dormify, a home décor retailer specializing in dorm life. The website features bedding, pillows, rugs, storage supplies and “dorm essentials” like shoe shelves, table lamps and no-tick alarm clocks. During its Cyber Monday sale last year, Dormify offered a 25% discount on every order with code ELFIT, including free shipping on orders of at least $50.

For more items for the home, don’t forget to check out Christmas Tree Shops, whose Black Friday deals extend to its nonseasonal inventory as well. Sears Hometown Store is another great choice when you’re shopping for home appliances and more.
