It’s that time of the year again – Christmas decorations are beginning to flood the aisles of our local supermarkets, right alongside Halloween costumes and Thanksgiving turkeys, and Black Friday ads are flooding the Internet. While holiday decorations are fun, we all know what everybody’s favorite part of the holiday season really is: gifts, of course! We love giving gifts and getting gifts, but we especially get our kicks from fantasizing about gifts.

Neiman Marcus’ Christmas book perfectly fulfills our luxury-starved imaginations year after year with its overwhelming grandeur. A quick trip down memory lane reminds us how lavish the items therein usually are. In 2010, Neiman Marcus offered a $75,000 Camaro Convertible. In 2011 they offered $1.5 million “His and Hers” dancing fountain. Last year they offered $99,000 JetLev R200 Jetpack. This year, the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book’s elegantly crafted scenarios and tantalizing selection is sure to hit us hard in our wallets, both real and imaginary.

Fur and… falcons?

One of the biggest themes this year is fur and heavy winter fashion, which will surely win the hearts of many a Game of Thrones fan. The Portraits in Elegance section included a Sofia Cashmere Cape with Natural Fox Trim, for $1,995. The Heartland section presented a Sofia Cashmere Cardigan with a lamb trim collar for $450. Without Reservation flaunted a Gorski Navy Cashmere Capelet for $1,595.

As a kicker, you could even purchase a Bespoke Global Falconry Companion— no less than your very own pet falcon —for $150,000. Before you rush to obtain your very own raptor, be sure you meet state and federal requirements for keeping your bird.

The heat of winter

This year’s Red! Hot section lays out piece after piece of must-have items in “Fashion’s newest neutral”: red. The section’s sexy vibe is complete with a Julianne Moore look-a-like model with sultry ginger hair.

The first (and most stunning) piece in the section is a $7,695 Lanvin Fuxia jacquard dress, reminiscent of a 50s cocktail dress, with embroidery and a flouncy skirt. Then there’s the Valentino Napa-Leather Red tote, with its indulgently rich color and curling applique, at $4,595. Finally, the Gucci knee-high Purple Wine Python Boot, with its lovingly complementary violet-red shade, can be yours for just $3,300.

World-class brilliance

The biggest jewel of the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book—quite literally—is the Forevermark Ultimate Diamond Experience package, which includes your own personalized diamond ring along with a trip across the globe. This “once-in-a-lifetime experience” will swing you from the London headquarters of De Beers Diamond Jewelers to the coast of Namibia, Africa where your diamond was first discovered.

If that little trip doesn’t satisfy your cosmopolitan soul, just wait. Your travels won’t end there! You’ll also get an exclusive tour of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, and then visit New York where one Maria Canale will personally design your ring. You can even name your own diamond! Your travels, along with your twenty-five carat ring, will cost you a mere $1,850,000. Reasonable enough.

For the rest of us

Don’t think Neiman Marcus has forgotten those of us who are rich in holiday spirit but poor in bank balances. For us, they’ve included an Irresistible Little Numbers section with steals under $100. Some notable items include a Belle Fare by Ming Yang Wine Scarf for $40; a pair of stylish Marc by Marc Jacobs Cat-Eye sunglasses, for $98 (just under the budget!); and some Melissa Shoes Punk-Studded Loafers for $85.

The Love Love Love Marvelous Michael Kors section also includes a number of under-$100s, and is worth a look.

Holiday leftovers

Here are the rest of this year’s most eye-catching gifts!

  • Alexander McQueen Black Python Clutch – $2945
  • Star Wars Darth Vader/Yoda Cufflinks – $4,200/$4,000
  • McIntosh McAire Audio System – $3,000
  • Waterford Portable Bar – $17,500
  • Lilly Pulitzer Art Deco Dress – $358
  • Bottega Veneta Hand-Woven Gray/Red Wallet – $530

Final Word

When we flip through Neiman Marcus’ Christmas book, we admire everything in its pages from the extravagant dresses to gorgeous tabletop bars, cocktail parties to a Midwest sunset. However, we certainly don’t focus on the price tag. Instead, we step outside of our circumstances for a quick second, and wonder “What if?” As we embark on our Black Friday bargain shopping, let’s not forget the true gift Neiman Marcus gives to the world year after year: fantasy, luxury, and best of all – an enriched imagination.
