Black Friday Toy Deals Are Just the Beginning for Holiday Discounts

Black Friday, Shopping

Black Friday is to deals as toys are to Christmas. How can you combine these two seasonal staples? With Black Friday toy deals, of course.

Historically, Black Friday hasn’t been the ideal time to buy toys. In fact, dolls, action figures and everything in between usually don’t reach their lowest prices during Black Friday sales events. Instead, prices drop closer to Christmas. The risk of skipping Black Friday deals and waiting for deeper discounts, however, is the possibility that popular toys will sell out.

If you want to ensure that Jack and Jane have their toys purchased and packaged by Christmas Eve, you may want to consider joining the masses of Black Friday shoppers. According to FatWallet.com, retailers like Walmart, Target and Toys R Us may discount their Mattel, Fisher Price, Vtech and Hasbro products by as much as 40% this Black Friday. But before you hit the stores and snag these Black Friday toy deals, you need to know what this year’s top toys are first.

Santa may be making a list and checking it twice, but here at NerdWallet, we’ve created our own. We’ve checked, re-checked and crosschecked lists from the top toy retailers – including Toys R Us, Target, Walmart and Kmart – to compile a guide of the hottest 2014 holiday toys. Here are this season’s must-have toys that are sure to be flying off shelves this Black Friday:

‘Frozen’ Frenzy

They’re the toys you won’t want to let go this Christmas season. The Disney movie that swept the country will be sweeping stores this holiday season with products that feature Anna, Elsa, Olaf and the rest of their “Frozen” friends. There are plenty of “Frozen” toys out there, but here are two of the most popular. Designed for children ages 3 and up, the Snow Glow Elsa Doll lights up and plays the signature “Let it Go” song for hours of entertainment. Kids of the same age can feel like a princess themselves with the 3-foot-tall My Size Anna Doll. Even better than the frosty fun these toys can provide? DealNews predicts movie-themed merchandise will be discounted as much as 75% on Black Friday and possibly 85% come mid-December.

This life-like furry companion is recommended for children ages 4 to 6.

Vtech Kidizoom Smartwatch

While you’ve got your eyes on the Apple Watch, chances are your son or daughter will want a smartwatch of his or her very own. Instead of splurging on Apple’s latest innovation, consider the Vtech Kidizoom Smartwatch for your little one. This touch-screen wristwatch does much more than simply tell the time. It also includes games, a video recorder and a voice recorder. The watch is recommended for children ages 4 to 6 and is sold in green, pink, blue and white.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Movie-inspired merchandise fills many of 2014’s top toy lists. Fans of the crime-fighting turtles will be happy to know that – much like Frozen – there are a variety of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys available this holiday season. Children ages 4 and older may appreciate the 11-inch Interactive Talking Turtles. These figurines of Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello can say more than 40 phrases. For even more hands-on fun, the Secret Sewer Lair Playset provides a platform for turtle adventures. The sewer scene includes a zip line and three levels of play. Action figures must be purchased separately.
