Best BlockBuster Black Friday Deals from 2012

As you may know, Blockbuster, LLC., was bought by Dish Network Corporation after the movie rental company filed for bankruptcy in 2010. There were still Black Friday specials in 2012 for those looking to spend the Thanksgiving holiday weekend watching movie classics and playing the latest video games for rent or purchase.

The deals took place over the course of six days, November 20-26, and the best value special was the 3 movies or games for 3-day rentals for $9.99 total. Remember that to be eligible for Blockbuster deals, a customer had to have membership and that this particular special worked if one returned the movies or games on the third day. In the fine print, Blockbuster does mention that any late returns were subject to additional fees.

For those not interested in rentals, there were other ways to get Blockbuster deals. A selection of recently released movies and games were available for purchase at 99¢. The selection varied per location. Another two deals included saving up to 50% on select box sets of movies and Buy 2-Get 1 Free previously viewed video games. And don’t forget that you received a free $5 Blockbuster gift card for purchasing $25 in gift cards.

The last deal Blockbuster offered turned out to be 50% off a 6-month Kids Pass, so for $14.99, buyers could get unlimited movie rentals from the Kids and Family section of the store. The word “unlimited” is slightly deceiving because in reality, one is paying for the discounted rental price, not free rentals. Again in the fine print, Blockbuster qualifies the deal in that these rental movies are $0.99 per night, which is not a bad deal. The only other big limit on this, though, was the rule of one movie out at a time for the discount to be applicable.

The Black Friday 2012 ad was still overall appealing when one considers that Blockbuster definitely set low prices for both rentals and purchases on its two entertainment modes, movies and games. There have been fewer and fewer locations throughout the US for these rental stores, but in the event that no store location is nearby, Blockbuster did start doing by-mail rentals as low as $9.99 a month for 1-3 movies out at one time.
