Black Friday is not just a day at Costco. It’s an entire event. We’ve looked through Costco’s upcoming deals and we’re ready to declare the winners of the discount membership warehouse’s 2014 Black Friday savings event.

Analyzing the Ad

As part of the membership store’s “Pre-Holiday Savings Event,” Costco will be offering substantial savings on a variety of items from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1 (including Black Friday, which is Nov. 28 this year). The store’s six-page ad includes price reductions across a diverse array of departments, including specials on TVs, tablets, laptops, DVDs, cookware, apparel and even food.

Remember, you won’t be able to nab any of these discounts on Thanksgiving Day, though. Costco is one of the many retailers that has pledged to stay closed on the holiday.

If you haven’t paged through the entire ad yet for yourself, here are some highlights of the store’s best discounts:

  • $100 off Samsung 10.1 Galaxy Tab 4 with Bonus Protective Sleeve
  • $120 off Samsung 40” Class 1080p Smart LED LCD HDTV
  • $320 off Samsung 60” Class 1080p Smart LED LCD HDTV
  • $125 off HP 15.6” TouchSmart Laptop
  • $70 off Panasonic FZ70 Digital Long Zoom Camera
  • $25 off Mikasa 65-piece flatware set

Winner: Techie

Without a doubt, when it comes to Costco’s Black Friday event, the numbers are in the favor of the techies. Three of the ad’s six pages are devoted to sales on electronic products, including discounts of up to as much as $720 off – in the case of the Samsung 75-inch Class 1080p Smart LED LCD HDTV. Speaking of TVs, this category of electronics is especially well-represented in the ad, with 11 models on sale, including a 32-inch screen, a 75-inch screen and every size in between.

In addition to the money you’ll save, if you purchase one of these technology products, you’ll also get Costco Concierge Services technical support and/or a second-year warranty with many electronics.

Winner: Online Shopper

Being a winner at Costco on Black Friday doesn’t require you to set foot in the store. Online shoppers will revel in this year’s savings event, as a vast majority of the discounts are available online as well as in-store. Just check for the red “Also Available at” box in the right-hand corner next to the deal you have your sights set on to see if you can buy it from the comfort of your own home.

What’s even better is the fact that these deals – online or not – are all instant savings opportunities. There are no mail-in rebate forms or coupons required to achieve the advertised prices. This should be especially appealing to online shoppers who value convenience.

Winner: Early-Bird Shopper

Perhaps you’re not in the market for electronics and you don’t plan on shopping online. You can still be a winner at Costco. The store is also rewarding early birds this year, and by early, we mean days early.

If you want to snag some sweet savings soon, you can beat the crowds and the seasonal mad rush by shopping deals at Costco beginning Nov. 21 – a full week before Black Friday.

What could be better than securing a great price, getting your Christmas shopping finished early and not having to compete with your fellow shoppers?

Loser: Bulk Buyer

In the Black Friday game, there are often both winners and losers. At Costco, the losers this year are bulk buyers. If you were planning on stocking up on lots of the store’s reduced-price products, you may want to think again. Look at the fine print in the ad, and you’ll see that there is a purchase limit on nearly every product. Most big-ticket items have a limit of three or five per customer. If you want more than that, you may have to team up with some friends to divide and conquer.

But if you only need one of those large TVs, or maybe two of those must-have tablets, there’s no need to worry. You can come out of Costco a Black Friday winner.
