You’ve decided to take control of your health and purchase a Fitbit Flex, which can help you monitor your daily activity as well as your sleep patterns.  The Fitbit Flex will only be a good deal on your end, though, if you make it work for you – so now it’s time to set it up to get the best use out of your new wristband.

As with most all wearable tech and rechargeable batteries, it is a good idea to make sure it is fully charged before using it for the first time.  Prior to inserting your flex tracker into your wristband, use your USB charger to plug in tracker. If all the lights on your tracker are blinking, your battery is fully charged, if not, you will have wait until all lights are blinking, which could take up to three hours. Each blinking light represents a 20 percent charge.

Once your battery is fully charged, you are free to use your Fitbit Flex, just be sure to note that you will have to recharge it, on average, every five days.  You can check the available power left on your lithium-polymer battery by using your IOS or Android App or through

Setting Up

Since your water-resistant Fitbit Flex is buttonless, you will have to sync it to your Smartphone, IOS or Android, or the Fitbit Flex website to find out how many steps you took or how many calories you burned.

Connect Through

To get all your fitness data through Fitbit Flex’s online tracking system, Fitbit Connect, you will need to first need to plug in your USB dongle, which came in your packaging, into your computer and then log-on to and download the software compatible to your computer.

Once you open the software on your computer, you will be prompted to set up an account and select the Fitbit gadget you are using. You will also be provided with a brief tutorial on how to use the online tracking platform.  At the end of the tutorial, you will be asked to wait for your tracker to blink and then tap on it twice.  One you tap your tracker, you can start using it.

To view your progress at any time, plug your USB dongle into your computer and log into your Fitbit account.

Sync to Your Smart Phone

If you have an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 3, iPad mini, iPod Touch, Samsung Galaxy S3 or Samsung Galaxy Note 2, you will be able to sync to your new Fitbit Flex using Blue Tooth.

To get started, you will have to first download the Fitbit app. Open the app and create an account, unless you already created one on your computer.  You will then be promoted to set up your tracker by first selecting the model you are using and then watching a brief tutorial. One the tutorial is complete, your tracker will start to blink, tap on your tracker twice. At that point, you are set to start tracking your steps.
