“Dude, watch this!”

Sound familiar? If recording and sharing real-time video of what’s happening now appeals to you or someone you know, consider checking out the best GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition deals this holiday season.

Easily worn, mounted or carried, this light, small action camera is made to record just about anything, anywhere – it can even be operated remotely via Wi-Fi.

It’s perfect for extreme sports off the coast of Australia, or capturing a climb up Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome.

The Sales Pitch: Smaller, Lighter, Longer Battery Life

The GoPro Hero3+ Black is the latest version, 20% smaller and lighter than the regular GoPro Hero3. It includes a new SuperView video mode, which GoPro says is the world’s most immersive wide-angle perspective, and has an Auto Low Light mode that allows for low-light shooting.

The Hero3+ Black also boasts 30% longer battery life, four-times-faster Wi-Fi, and a sharper lens. It’s also waterproof up to 131 feet.

Of course, this doesn’t come cheap. Typically going for the retail price of $399.99, the GoPro Hero might be out of your price range – but that’s where the deals come in.

Ways to Save

You can find the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition in stores for the full retail price at more than a few big-box retailers, including Best Buy, Academy Sports, Bass Pro Shops and the Apple Store.

DealFinder will help you get the best price by applying all the layers of deals to end up with bigger savings when buying the GoPro online. The methods include various actions you can take to get the discounts – the most rewarding deals tend to include signing up for store memberships or using certain store or credit cards.

Membership Cards

For the deal at REI, for instance, sign up for an REI Visa card by the last day of 2013, and you will get a $100 gift card after your first purchase for use within 60 days. Now if you make the purchase with your REI membership, you get an additional 10% refund, and 5% more off as a perk for using the REI Visa. The final price comes to $239.96, a savings of $159.99

Another way to achieve a good deal that requires signing up involves a lesser-known website called Mr. Rebates. If you sign up on the site and search for the GoPro Hero3+,  you’ll find various cash-back offers of up to 7%. If you go to Backcountry.com through Mr. Rebates, you’ll get 12% cash back. The potential savings range from $24 to $48.

Like going on Mr. Rebates, the Discover Card approach involves cash back options as the means for you to save. Clicking on the Shop Discover link on the Discover Card website will help you find cash-back bonus deals when you use your Discover card at several retailers who carry the GoPro camera: Apple Store (5%), Bass Pro Shops (5%), Backcountry (10%) and LLBean (5%).

Store Credit and Free Gifts

Other deals are more about store credit, like the one from Cabela’s, which offers $75 in Cabela’s Buks if you order the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition up until Christmas Day. Still other ways to get bargains involve free gifts like the 32GB Micro SD card ($32.99 value) that comes with the camera order when ordered from Calumet Photo online.

The advantage to all of these approaches is the stacking. At L.L. Bean, you can get a $10 gift card and free shipping for anything ordered before Dec. 24. Now if you have a Discover card on top of that, combine this with it and you’ve got a savings of $30.

Just remember: The best GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition deals for the holidays won’t last forever. You can’t find a black edition on a lot of retailers’ websites – Target and Walmart to name two – apparently because they’ve already sold out!
