If you are looking for a fitness tracker to help you get in shape or even stay in shape, you probably already know there are more than a few on the market. To help you decide, which one is best for you, we compare the Fitbit Flex and the Garmin Vivofit.

Dunk It in the Water

The Fitbit Flex and the Garmin Vivofit are both designed not only for comfort, but to withstand a drop in the water, but one is more water resistant than the other. The Fitbit Flex, which is made with an elastomer material similar to what is used to make sports watches, is water resistant, will hold up in the shower and can be submerged up to 10 meters.  The Garmin Vivofit can also be in the shower, but it can be submerged up to 50 meters. So, if you plan on doing some diving with your fitness tracker, go for the Garmin Vivofit, but if you will only be swimming in the pool with your tracker, pick up a Fitbit Flex.

Viewing Your Stats

When it comes to viewing the display on your fitness tracker, you should know that the Garmin Vivofit has a 25.5 mm x10mm display screen to view your stats at anytime, except in the dark since it doesn’t come equipped with a backlight. The Fitbit, however, does not have a display at all and instead, you will need to view all your stats on your computer or smartphone. If you don’t mind not seeing your results right away, go ahead and buy the Fitbit Flex.

Battery Power

When it comes to battery power, the Garmin Vivofit takes the cake. The fitness tracker has the ability to stay powered on for more than a year with its two batteries without having to replace them.  By comparison, the Fitbit Flex, which features a lithium-polymer battery, will have to be charged for about an hour every five days. So, if you don’t want to have to think about recharging your fitness tracker for quite some time, you are going to want to opt for the Garmin Vivofit.

The Cost Comparison

The Fitbit Flex and the Garmin Vivofit vary when it comes to price. According to Consumer Reports the Fitbit Flex retails, on average, for about $100, but there are deals available. Meanwhile the Garmin Vivofit, will run you about $130.  So, if you are looking to save money on your fitness tracker purchase, you will want to buy the Fitbit Flex over the Garmin Vivofit.
