When you think Black Friday, you probably think of two things: shopping and spending (And maybe a third: the crowds). But did you know there’s a way to spend your Black Friday without spending any money?

We’ve read through the Black Friday ads released so far and we’ve compiled a list of major retailers offering freebies and giveaways. If you time your arrival right, you can walk away from your favorite store (or stores) with a true Black Friday deal – without spending a dime. You’ll just need to devote a little bit of your time to standing in line.

Gift Bucks at Belk

To kick off its Black Friday 2014 event, department store Belk is giving away $1 million worth of gift cards starting at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. You can cash in on the giveaway by being one of the first 250 customers in line at a Belk store location. Each one of these early shoppers is guaranteed a gift card of at least $5. Plus, there will be one $1,000 winner at every store location.

Totes and Cards at Half Price Books

Want to expand your personal library for free this Black Friday? At Half Price Books, you just might be able to. The retailer is offering an early-bird special beginning at 7 a.m. Nov. 28. The first 100 people in line will get a free tote bag and a $5 gift card. Plus, one special early-bird customer will find a $100 gift card in his or her tote bag.

Sidelines Seat at Sports Authority

If you’re looking for athletic items this Black Friday, Sports Authority is the place for you. The retailer is giving away a freebie of its own, too. The first 50 people in line at each store location at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving will receive a free Sports Authority logo chair. Additionally, the first 80 people at each store on Thursday and Friday will have a chance to win up to $500 in bonus bucks.

A Stocking for Whiskers at PetSmart

Don’t forget your furry friend when you hit the stores. PetSmart will be opening its doors at 7 a.m. on Black Friday, and the retailer’s freebie offer will begin at the same time. The first 100 customers in the store will receive a free stocking. Stockings will be filled with Hill’s dog and cat treats as well as a scratch card with more chances to win prizes.

The grand prize winner of the scratch card promotion will win a trip for four (plus a pet) to Beverly Hills. If you don’t walk away with the trip, you can still be a winner. One customer at each PetSmart location will get a $100 gift card.

Free Fitness From Gold’s Gym

Want to sweat away all that holiday shopping stress? Or maybe burn off those extra Thanksgiving dinner calories? Well, you can, and this deal doesn’t require lining up at a big-box retailer. Gold’s Gym is hosting a “Trim the Fat” special this Nov. 28. As part of the event, the nationwide gym chain is offering free Black Friday workouts. Besides getting a workout in, visitors can also talk with Gold’s Gym trainers, nutrition experts and fitness experts.

Make Your Own Freebies

If you’re willing to do a little work and research this Black Friday, you may be able to score some of your very own freebies – ones that aren’t necessarily listed on the front page of any ad.

Here are a few tips to be a savvy shopper:

  • Combine coupons with already-discounted prices.
  • Take advantage of “buy one, get one free” deals.
  • Look for products that come with a gift card – you can always use that on a future shopping trip.
