When does Labor Day start in August? When it involves shopping.

Retailers across the country are offering considerable Labor Day discounts on a wide array of merchandise well before the first Monday in September. NerdWallet Shopping and DealFinder have rounded up some of the best sales that you can start taking advantage of right now.

This year, merchandisers are rolling out discounts earlier, and offering them for longer, in an attempt to move out summer merchandise and make room for fall and winter necessities. You can take advantage of this trend and start shopping – and saving – with some of these spectacular pre-Labor Day sales.

Macy’s: 20% Off and Free Shipping Offer

Retail giant Macy’s is offering four days of deals, ending Saturday. This includes over 4,000 limited-time special prices on select products from clothing to cookware. Macy’s is also offering an extra 20% off sales pass for online and in-store purchases. Online exclusives include free shipping on orders of $75 or more and an extra 25% off clearance items. The savings promo code here is ‘DEALS.’

Best Buy: Weeklong Savings

At Best Buy, technology deals run from now until Sept. 6. Take advantage of 10% to 30% off major appliances and up to 25% off HDTVs.

Zazzle: Better Savings Now Than Monday

Online customization site Zazzle is another merchandiser getting in on the pre-Labor Day sales trend. Its “Sweet Savings” promotion includes a sitewide 25% off discount for all orders placed on Thursday. This is an even better deal than the 15% off site-wide discount being offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Enter discount code ‘2014LABORDAY’ to take advantage of this summer special.

Sears: Labor Day Preview

A Labor Day preview event is underway now at Sears. Notable offers include 40% or more off on appliances and up to 60% off mattresses. Free delivery is available on appliance purchases of $399 or more and mattress purchases of $599 or more.

Lowe’s: Free Appliance Delivery and Haul Away

Home improvement store Lowe’s has already started its Labor Day discounts, which will run through Sept. 3. The current deal includes 10% to 30% off major appliances of $399 or more, as well as free home delivery and old appliance removal.

Walmart: Online Deals

At Walmart, loads of pre-Labor Day sales are now available in the form of online-only exclusives. There are rollback and clearance prices on mattresses, patio furniture, skincare, cookware and clothing. Because now is the best time for saving on summer products, some of the stand-out deals include outdoor living essentials. The Grill King 5-Burner Gas Grill with Side Burner, for example, was originally listed for $258 and is now available for $198. This $60 savings is accompanied by an offer for free shipping or free in-store pickup.

Designer Shoe Warehouse: Sandal Clearance

At Designer Shoe Warehouse, you can go online now to take advantage of the “Goodbye, Summer” clearance event. This includes drastic price cuts on over 800 pairs of sandals. Some styles are 50% or more off regular prices.

JCPenney: Sales on Top of Sales

JCPenney is offering pre-Labor Day sales both in-store and online. You can save 50% to 70% on “Red Zone” clearance items or 40% to 50% on furniture and mattresses. Take an extra 20% off when you shop with a JCPenney credit card, or an extra 15% off when you shop using any other payment method. Deals end Monday.
