T.J. Maxx Store Guide: Find the Top Deals

Shopping, Store Savings Guides

Stocking your wardrobe with brand-name styles doesn’t always have to burden your wallet. Discount retailer T.J. Maxx is an option for shoppers with designer tastes looking for bargain prices.

We’ve compiled a T.J. Maxx store guide to help you find the best deals.

About T.J. Maxx

The discount store buys products from major department store retailers to resell at a reduced cost. Shoppers can find brand-name and designer goods for 20% to 60% off regular price, with inventory varying by location, and from week to week. Items can span across various categories including men’s, women’s, juniors, shoes, handbags, jewelry, luggage and home categories.

Sale events

T.J. Maxx is an off-price retailer, so it rarely hosts sales like other stores do. Its inventory is replenished weekly, so markdowns happen frequently in store and online. Shoppers tend to see bigger price cuts during end-of-season clearouts (usually in January and July) to make room for the next season’s merchandise.

Rewards program

T.J. Maxx offers extra incentives to shoppers in the form of two store-branded credit cards: the basic TJX Rewards Credit Card, which can be used only at T.J. Maxx and partner retailers, and the TJX Rewards Platinum MasterCard, which can be used anywhere.

Shoppers who are approved for either card get 10% off their first online purchase. Cardholders earn 5 points for every $1 spent at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra Trading Post and tjmaxx.com. For every 1,000 points accrued (or $200 spent), shoppers receive a $10 rewards certificate. Another bonus for rewards members: special store hours where they can snag deals before anyone else.

The MasterCard gives you additional benefits, such as 1 point for every $1 spent on the card anywhere MasterCard is accepted, cash access at qualifying ATMs and price protection.

But before getting a retail store credit card, be sure to weigh your options.

Shipping and returns

Standard shipping within the U.S. and Puerto Rico starts at $8.99. T.J. Maxx’s website often hosts shipping promotions where shoppers can earn free delivery if they meet the minimum order amounts or apply an assigned code.

T.J. Maxx’s return policies are similar to those of most other retailers. Returns accompanied by a receipt can be made within 30 days of purchase for an exchange or refund, provided that items are unused. If you don’t have a receipt or make returns after the 30-day window, you’ll receive store credit.

Online purchases can be returned in store for free within 30 days of the order date. You can also make the return by mail, but a shipping and handling fee is deducted from your refund amount. If the item doesn’t reach the company warehouse within 30 days of the order date, you’re only eligible to receive merchandise credit.
