Walgreens Store Guide: Find the Top Deals and Sales at Walgreens
Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This may influence which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own.

Walgreens is a drugstore that’s also a one-stop shop for everything from home goods to groceries. Before your next Walgreens trip, check out this guide to help you save on your purchases.

About Walgreens

At Walgreens, you can fill a prescription, buy vitamins and pick up a tub of ice cream, all in one visit. Some locations have a health clinic in addition to a pharmacy, and you can find household items similar to those sold at Target and Wal-Mart.

Walgreens releases a weekly ad with store deals, specials and coupons. Many of the deals are “buy one, get one” promos, where you buy one item at full price and get the same or a similar item for free or at a discount. The company also offers savings if you buy multiples of similar products, such as two bags of cookies for $3, or $1.99 each. Usually, these ads promote Walgreens’ seasonal and holiday goods.

The retailer also releases a monthly “Savings Book” full of coupons. You can pick it up in store or print it from the website. Most coupons are valid only with a Walgreens Balance Rewards card.

Walgreens hosts Black Friday sales, usually starting on Thanksgiving morning and continuing through Saturday. Previous ads were packed with savings on electronics, gift sets and everyday essentials. Some deals were exclusively for in-store or online purchases.

Rewards programs

Balance Rewards members earn rewards points mainly through spending: You get 10 points for every $1 spent. But you can earn points in other ways.

Walgreens rewards customers who make healthy choices. You can track your activity using fitness apps and devices, such as Fitbit activity trackers, and present your activity log to Walgreens associates to claim points. Rewards include:

  • 20 points for every mile walked, run or biked.
  • 20 points for every blood pressure and blood glucose test.
  • 20 points for weigh-ins.
  • 20 points for quitting tobacco with nicotine replacement therapy.
  • 250 points for setting and achieving health goals.

Other benefits from the rewards program include points for immunizations, prescription orders and refills, paperless coupons and members-only offers.

Rewards members can also sign up as a Walgreens “beauty enthusiast.” Benefits include points for every beauty product purchase, exclusive promotions and samples.

Health clinic

In addition to filling prescriptions and providing over-the-counter medications, some Walgreens stores have a health clinic. There are over 400 Walgreens health care locations across 20 states that provide services including:

  • Physicals.
  • Vaccinations.
  • Treatment for minor injuries, aches, pains and skin conditions.
  • Monitoring and management of some ongoing health conditions.

You can schedule same-day appointments, and some clinics accept walk-ins. Most clinics accept many of the major insurance plans, as well as out-of-pocket payments, but check with your closest location to see if your coverage is eligible.

Photo printing

Film processing is available in stores. You can also upload digital photos through the Walgreens app or through an online account to order prints, calendars, posters, photo cards and other customized gifts. Same-day pickup is an option at some locations. Check Walgreens’ weekly ad or website for specials or discounts.

Walgreens app

The Walgreens mobile app is available for iPhone and Android phones. You can use it to shop for products, refill prescriptions and order photos. If you’re a Balance Rewards member, you can add coupons directly to your rewards card for automatic savings. The app also has a health manager feature where users can set pill reminders, keep track of prescriptions and get information on immunizations.

Shipping and returns

Shipping costs are based on product size, weight, shipping method and delivery address. The standard rate starts at $5.99, but it will deliver prescriptions, contact lenses and some other products for free. Orders of $35 or more and weighing under 20 pounds are eligible for free shipping, as long as they’re sent within the 48 contiguous states. Check out Walgreens’ shipping policies for full details.
