1. A welcome bonus that’s almost enough to get you to Hawaii twice

The Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® offers the following welcome bonus: Limited Time Offer: Earn 60,000 bonus miles after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first 90 days.

Flight rewards from the U.S. mainland to Hawaii begin at 17,500 miles each way. So for as few as 35,000 miles, you could be on your way with a round-trip ticket from the West Coast to Hawaii.

When you’re looking for other ways to spend your welcome bonus, consider redeeming miles on partner airlines JetBlue, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Virgin Atlantic or Virgin Australia. To book a flight with Hawaiian’s partners, you’ll have to call Hawaiian.

2. You can bring a friend on your travels

The Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® is good for taking a friend with you on vacation. New cardholders will receive 50% off a round-trip economy class companion fare. Only full coach fares between Hawaii and North America are eligible, and the 50% companion travel discount expires after 13 months.

After the first year, cardholders receive a $100 discount on a companion ticket every account anniversary.

3. A generous mileage bonus on everyday purchases

Compared to some airline reward cards cards, the 3 miles per $1 spent on Hawaiian Airlines purchases is rather generous. Similar cards, like the AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard® and the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express offer 2 miles per $1 spent on their respective airlines. Terms apply.

With 2 miles per $1 spent on gas, dining and grocery store purchases, you’ll earn miles faster with the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard®.

4. Sharing miles made easy

With Share Miles, cardholders can receive HawaiianMiles from friends and family with no transaction fees. While there is no limit or minimum transfer requirement, cardholders can only receive miles up to 10 times a year.

5. Perks that negate the annual fee

Your annual fee on this card is $0 intro for the first year, then $99. For those who fly Hawaiian regularly, the perks can more than offset the annual fee.

First, the primary cardholder qualifies for a free checked bag on Hawaiian flights (excluding international flights), which would otherwise cost up to $60 round-trip. This benefit only extends to the primary cardholder, not to your travel companions.

If you have elite status with Hawaiian Airlines as a Pualani Platinum or Gold member, you’ll receive up to $100 in-flight credit each year. Use this to pay for food, drinks and entertainment while in the air (maximum reimbursement of $10 per day).

The perks of the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® aren’t limited to travel. As part of the World Elite Mastercard benefits, cardholders receive various additional perks. Get free shipping with a Shoprunner subscription, which provides free two-day shipping at popular retail outlets. An annual subscription to Shoprunner would cost $79. Cardholders also qualify for a $5 Postmates credit on purchases of $25 or more and a $10 Lyft credit after five Lyft rides in one calendar month.

If you use many of these benefits, it’s fairly easy to recoup the annual fee.
