American Express Membership Rewards members should keep an eye out for an invitation from Amazon. It could be worth $30.
The companies are offering a special incentive to Membership Rewards members who make a qualifying purchase of $60 or more from Amazon using Membership Rewards points as payment.
The deal is available only to members who haven’t spent AmEx points on Amazon for 12 months. And it’s invitation-only: There’s no way to find this deal if it hasn’t found you. But if you have received an invitation, here’s how to get $30 off a purchase of $60 or more.

Click the link in the invitation and follow the prompts. When you arrive at Amazon.com, put at least $60 worth of items you’d like to purchase in your cart. When you’re ready to check out, select American Express Membership Rewards points as the payment method.
You don’t need enough AmEx points to cover the whole purchase. A combination of points and cash will activate the $30 refund. Make sure the promotion code from the link is entered in the appropriate box at checkout.
No code, no $30 back.
Of course, restrictions apply. Only items purchased from Amazon go toward that $60 minimum. Purchases from third parties that sell through Amazon don’t count. Taxes, gift-wrapping and shipping charges don’t apply to the minimum, either.
But the good news is that there appears to be no requirement for the percentage of the purchase that must be covered with AmEx points. Some users reported for the same offer last year that just 1 cent worth of AmEx points applied as payment causes the $30 refund to kick in.
The offer expires on Nov. 30, 2018. So if you get the invitation, ask yourself how it could help you with your holiday gift list.
