Senior Security Engineer

*Based in San Francisco, CA or 100% Remote (based in the U.S.)*

NerdWallet’s mission is to provide clarity for all of life’s financial decisions. We do this by making it easy to choose various financial products and services, and tackle major life goals. Over the past few years, we’ve added more personalized membership services. To create personalized recommendations, we need to collect and build a financial profile of the consumer, for which we pull the customer’s credit file, link their bank accounts and perform investing decisions for them. 

Given that we ask users for very sensitive personal and financial information, security is of immense importance to all that we do. Your job will be to help secure our code. Our ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in web application security and loves working with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to build things securely. 

Where you can make an impact:

  • Build security libraries and tools that will be used by the rest of the engineering teams
  • Provide expert security guidance to developers building and integrating new software to ensure security best practices are followed
  • Work with stakeholders across the organization to ensure things are designed with security in mind
  • Help audit and improve our security best practices
  • Build and integrate security tools into our CI/CD pipeline, as well as work with stakeholders to fix vulnerabilities
  • Help identify security gaps in existing code bases and products and provide technical guidance around remediation

Your experience: 

  • B.S. in Computer Science or 3+ years building software
  • Proficient in Javascript
  • A thorough understanding of web / browser security model
  • General understanding of security best practices or collaboration with a security team
  • Experience with Nodejs, React, Redux will be a major plus
  • Experience building microservices is a plus
