BEWARE Bank of America!
Bank of America Visa cash reward card is among the best. It’s a good credit card for non-B.ofA. depositors, but more rewarding for customers with substantial deposits. I’ve used BofA credit cards for years with no problems. Worst thing about BofA credit cards is the ridiculous 3% foreign transaction fee. Be sure to travel with some other card when leaving the USA to avoid that silly rip-off.
Good for building credit, there are much better cards for rewards
This was my first credit card almost a decade ago, paired with a BofA student checking account. It was great for establishing credit history and allowed me to obtain credit products with better rates and benefits.
Once I did that, I’ve virtually not touched this card for years. There’s no reason to recommend this card if you already have good credit.
The 1-3% rewards rates are meager compared to other cards, even free ones like the Sallie Mae MasterCard, Citi Double Cash, or Discover it.
Rewards get taken away from you without being notified.
I had cash rewards card from boa with 2% flat cash rewards back on all purchases plus 25% more if I let it accumulate it beyond $300. I used it for more than 4 yrs and cashed out 3 times in past. Just this month i lost all my bonus and $340 rewards becoz they cancelled my reward program and changed it to their new 1-2-3 program. In future, you might lose too. I complained 2 levels up and still no resolution.
Not bad but definitely better options out there
Cash “Rewards” are not great. Better use of your time (and money) to get something like Chase Sapphire Preferred because the rewards points are actually useful.
The only reason I really do like this card is I have my checking / savings accounts set up with Bank of America so making payments is as simple as a quick transfer on the app.
No customer service without long delays
I have been a long time card holder with nocomplaints....until recently.
Within the last year BOA has really scaled down customerservice.
Just calling them and trying to talk to a human being isnothing short of brutal.
They have done away with bill-pay that was extremely convenientto take care of all utility and other bills apparently to save money so you nolonger can earn cash back on bill pay FYI.
That also required me to change all that information over toanother service which has been time consuming to re-establish elsewhere.
I have also had my card canceled due to security issues atleast twice with the most recent causing me to be on the phone for over 45minutes due to the lack of customer service.
Sorry, cannot recommend and suggest you look elsewhere formore service oriented cards.
Can’t pay on the due date. There are other options out there…
The most frustrating part with this card is you can not even pay on the due date, payment has to be carried out early in the day or on the previous day to be effective (I am on west coast). Also if the due date is on the weekend or some holiday, you need to have your payment done on the last working day! I have credit cards from some credit union bank, Discover and American Express. None of them has this issue. In addition, BofA customer service is not as good as others, recently I had to spend ~an hour on the phone to correct a simple error.
Great card to use with other rewards cards
The BankAmericard has been a reliable companion in my wallet. I use it mainly for the 2% grocery rewards (including purchasing gift cards at grocery stores). When my other credit card is not having 5% cashback on gas, I use my BankAmericard for 3% gas cashback rewards. I also have a Checking account and 2 Savings accounts with BofA, which is great, because if you transfer your cashback rewards to a BofA Checking or Savings account, you get a 10% bonus from the transfer. It’s a very solid, reliable card and I highly recommend it.
Cash rewards for your spending
I like it because customer service is great and was able to help with fraud issues immediately.
SO FAR, SO GOOD
I’m in the process of reestablishing and rebuilding my credit after years of credit abuse, credit neglect and credit ignorance. After years of swearing off credit cards (because I believe they are dangerous) I’ve come to realize (thru education & credit counseling) that credit cards and credit card usage are a necessary evil when rebuilding good credit. So, when I received an online Bank of America Cash Rewards Visa Credit Card offer, I decided to apply. I’ve had a Bank of America checking account for years, but I also have a recent Chapter 13 repayment plan discharge, and my approval rate on a popular credit monitoring site was fair. So, when I was approved with a $1500 credit limit, I was ecstatic that BofA took a chance with me. Today, I use this card solely for purchasing gas and groceries. I promptly pay the entire bill every month. The online banking and the smart phone app are convenient & extremely easy to navigate. I utilize the app and online features to monitor activity, transfer funds & cash rewards, and pay bills. I’ve never had any problems or issues with my accounts to date, so I can’t comment on BofA’s customer service. I was awarded $100 bonus cash rewards as promised after attaining $500 in purchases within the 90 day timeframe. I also enjoy the additional bonus 10% I receive when transferring rewards into my BofA bank account. Although this is my first & only real credit card in years, I’m very happy with it and I have no complaints so far.
BANK OF AMERICA IS A GREAT CREDIT CARD
WELL FOR ONE THING I DONT UNDERSTAND PEOPLE HAVE BAD SITUATIONS WITH BOFA I HAVE LOTS OF CREDIT CARDS WITH HIGH CRDIT LIMITS. I USE ONE CARD AT A TIME PAY FULL BALANCE SO I WOULDN"T GET NO INTREST RATE. I LOVE CREDIT CARDS BUT YOU HAVE TO USE THEM THE RIGHT WAY. WHY USE ANOTHER CREDIT CARD AND YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A BALANCE THE ONE YOU HAVE PAY THE BALANCE YOU PUT IT UP, THEN YOU CAN USE ANOTHER CARD THATS HOW YOU GO IN DEBT. I HAD MY CARDS FOR A LONG TIME NEVER IN DEBT I USE BOFA ALL THE TIME BUT SOME PEOPLE
NOT LIKE ME IN THIS WORLD TODAY YOU NEED CREDIT CARDS TO
GET THINHGS YOU WANT IF YOUR CREDIT IS BAD IT WILL BE ROUGH
ON YOU SO THNK ABOUT WHAT YOUR DOING DONT GO IN DEBT.
Love the rewards!
I love this card I took advantage of the $100 online cash rewards bonus after you spend at least $500 on purchases in the first 90 days of account opening. And the additional 10% given to customers if you redeemed into a Bank of America account.
I just got approved for this card
Well I just got this card and even it gives 3 % back in gas , my Amex BCE offers more cash back in other categories like groceries and store departments it the only thing I like it’s whenever I put gas with this card it won’t put a $100 hold on it like my Amex does everytime so far so good
Great cash back rewards!
1% back on all purchases
Disappointed With Them
I applied for the Bank of America Cash Rewards card with a credit score of 700+ and was denied the card and offered a secured credit card that had a $99 deposit and a $39 annual fee. They recently unsecured my card but they refuse to remove the annual fee despite me having the same card as everyone else. It seems like they denied me for the normal card as a way to sucker me into the card with an annual fee attached to it even when it became unsecured.
This is THE card to have
I’ve been a BoA customer for over a decade, and I have carried this card for longer than I can remember. This card can be an earning powerhouse for groceries and gasoline, and the APR for me is the most competitive rate out there (four points lower than any offering from Amex, Chase, or Citi).
The card offers 3% cashback on gas, 2% on groceries (up to $2,500 in spending combined per quarter) plus 1% back on all other purchases. The rewards can be redeemed automatically into a BoA checking or savings account with an additional 10% premium.
When this card is combined with other reward cards like the Chase Amazon Prime card (unlimited 2% on gas/dining/pharmacy, with 3%/5% unlimited on Amazon purchases) and Chase Freedom Unlimited (1.5% unlimited on every purchase), the cashback adds up very quickly.
Finally, BoA has fantastic customer service and proactive customer security. There’s simply nothing to dislike about this card.
had this card since 2005
This has been a pretty good card over the years and the offerings have changed quite a few times. It has been a great deal when they give you a bonus if you redeem your rewards into a BoA checking account but alas the wife started working at another bank so all our accts are there now and we only have the credit card with BoA. With no yearly fee and decent cash back offerings in the everyday spending categories it can be a good everyday card. If you want to redeem rewards it has to be over 25.00 which can be a downer. You can pay it in person at any branch - a nice perk if you are on the go. There are better card member benefits with other credit cards but if you are a BoA account holder and you are looking for a simple everyday card this is the one.
Terrible Customer Service
I have had this card for 2 or 3 years and it was fine until about 7 months ago. I started receiving fraudulent charges several times a month. I called in to get it resolved several times and even got a new card and card number issued. The charges continued. After many phone calls, I determined that my only recourse to stop the charges was to completely close the account. I have had fraudulent charges on other cards and resolving the issue is always a pain, but it can always be done and usually fairly quickly. Not with Bank of America! Stay away!
SCAM NEVER RECEIVED REWARD POINTS
DO not apply for this card. IT is a SCAM. Never received the reward points. Bank of AMerica do the right thing.
I’m getting rid of this card.
I’ve had several issues with this card recently, including a couple that were due to B of A “flagging” the charge, initially declining it, sending me a text to verify whether the charge was legitimate or not, then approving it. The problem is that the merchant only responds to the initial decline, which I didn’t realize until my merchandise never showed up. Okay, fine – so they’re a little overly diligent with the fraud protection. Not such a bad thing, right? Except for the fact that they allowed over $1700 in fraudulent charges on the card without a peep! $1300 of it was charges to a car wash across the country. I have trouble buying throw pillows for my house, but they will okay a $1300 car wash without question?!? All three times I’ve had to speak with someone about a problem like this, I’ve had to sit on hold for a minimum of half an hour. That’s completely ridiculous. I understand the occasional long hold time, but constantly? I have been a B of A customer for a year now, and have been very, very pleased with my bank service. But this card does not match up with the rest of my experience. That’s why I’m on this site – looking for a replacement card. Stay away from this one!
