Our children receive their health coverage through Medicaid/CHIP, and us through Obamacare. We decided to get our coverage through the market place this year for the whole family. Since the law seems to be repealed, we decided to delay this transition and keep them covered by Medicaid/CHIP to wait and see how things will unfold.

One way to do that (we think ) is to change our tax filling status from “married joint” to “head of household”. Are we eligible to do that ? What are the repercussions of such a move on our Obamacare or their health insurance?

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka “Obamacare”) has NOT been repealed. To the best of our knowledge the state- and federally-sponsored health exchanges where consumers purchase insurance will remain functioning in 2017 just as they have in previous years. Do NOT change your tax filing status based on hearsay or without first consulting your tax preparer.
